The latest Kickstarter Update is live! Kickstarter update #74We've got some development updates for you—along with an extremely mood-lit look at IGA's Halloween costume—so let's get right to it! Happy Halloween! IGA here. I am delivering this message to you exactly as you see me here in the photo. By the way, I got all this in Akihabara. This time we would like to introduce a new enemy. This is Killer Barber, the murderous hairdresser. Well... the name really speaks for itself. He uses his scissor arms to climb across the ceiling and swiftly attack towards the player. This character can also—well, I should leave it at that for now. Our staff has been working on placing enemies based on difficulty level. When I see the Nightmare Mode enemy placements, I always wonder if it's okay to make a game this difficult. I’ve worked on enemy placement in games before, so I understand that the person making those decisions becomes more and more immune to difficulty level over time. I think that’s what’s happening to the team now—they’re getting a little vicious with it… We've also been working on the models—we've been meticulously adjusting each character. In particular, we're focused on facial features. Gebel is looking more and more handsome these days... Before and After Every day we fight through the challenges of development, but we know we're working to create a game worthy of reaching everyone's hands. Thank you for your continued support. Happy Halloween, Army of the Night!
We hope all of you have some fun Halloween plans for the coming weekend (because it’s weird to celebrate Halloween on the first weekend of November). As you can imagine, Halloween is one of our favorite times of year. I am getting out my own favorite costume for this year’s company Halloween party.

We hope that today’s updates are as exciting for you as they are for us! The Killer Barber is a particularly nasty enemy. He doesn’t politely walk towards you, he quickly climbs around the walls and ceiling to attack from various angles. Weapon and shard choices really begin to matter when facing these more complex foes. I haven’t had the pleasure of fighting him in the game yet, but he’s going to be a fun one.
The before and after of Gebel is a small taste of the visual updates that have been happening behind the scenes.
We know everyone is waiting to see a more comprehensive view of the game’s visual improvements. A lot of that work is still in progress and not ready to be revealed. We are going to wait until the look of the game is mostly locked before we share.
The same applies for our release date. The number one question right now is “When?” and the second most popular is “approximately when?”. Until we hit certain internal development milestones we are not going to discuss the release date because there are still variables; we do not want to give out a date and then change it. Even saying Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter or 1st/2nd/3rd/4th quarter would result in confusion if we had to release slightly later or earlier than announced, or at the start or end of one of those cycles. We do have a target date internally that we feel confident about, but until we can nail it down, we will wait to reveal it.
I want to thank all of our backers and fans for your patience as work progresses on the game. The final game is going to be worth it.

Great update! Copypasta of my comment on Kickstarter: New Gebel looks WAY better! If you look at the before/after, "before" just starts to look quite dorky Also, is the killer barber the equivalent to the scissors enemy in Curse of the Moon? That one was the creepiest enemy in the entire game. He does seem to behave differently in this one though. Climbing walls and the ceiling sounds very interesting to me! It's also very nice to read that enemy placement will vary with difficulty selection. Really gives you a reason to try nightmare if you've already beaten the game in other modes. Amazing news!

Pretty nice update. I'm getting a strong feeling that this barber is going to attempt to give Miriam a haircut, possibly knocking off her head equipment to do so.

To those wondering why the game needs more dev time, see, Gebel's before and after shots.

the before and after on Gebel is so eye-opening on why the game actually does need the additional time to clean up.

The visual upgrade to Gebel looks really good, if they're going for this level of polish in the whole game then it's understandable why they needed more time and delayed the game to 2019.

Besides Gebel's "new" look, one of the things that's really encouraging is seeing how much care the developers are putting into the additional game modes.
For nightmare mode, they could've just increased the enemies' HP and called it a day; instead, they're changing the enemy layout - the game's design itself - to offer us a different, high-quality experience.
This, of course, takes additional time and resources - but it's sure to be worth it in the end.

That Gebel update looks really good. It’s a small thing, but seeing it makes me happy; it lets me know that all the beta feedback has lead to some serious polish. I would have been happy with the game as it looked in the demo, but now I know you guys are going to make it amazing

Interesting update! Here are my thoughts: ABOUT KILLER BARBER
Interesting enemy. This demon is a bit close both to Scissors on Curse of the Moon and Miss Murderer on Order of Ecclesia. A scissor-wyelding enemy that (on Order) moves at odd and weird angles. Enemies like that are always fun to fight against. I wonder what kind of Shard Killer Barber is gonna give us (if he gives anything). Miss Murderer gave us Vol Falcis Glyph on Order of Ecclesia (A sickle like attack). ABOUT ENEMY PLACEMENT ON NIGHTMARE MODE
This is also something i was really hoping for. Again, in Order of Ecclesia, Hard Mode had stronger enemies showing up at early stages, and it seems that is also being done on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. As dareka said, they didn't just increased enemies stats, they are creating a different game with different enemy placement. ABOUT GEBEL LOOKS
I thought the game graphics where good until i saw this. The difference is so huge that when you look the "before" you really start to think that the graphics wasn't that good. Such a enormous improvement. Take the time needed guys. Things are looking great.

Unless plans have changed, it does seem like we'll get the option to adjust Miriam's hairstyle, if even just a little. Perhaps this is the secret ability of Killer Barber! Equip the "Barber's Cape" accessory, remain completely still, and the Killer Barber will get to work. This would be a hilariously cumbersome way to go about offering a customization feature, but gosh darn it, it would be intensely memorable. Again, in Order of Ecclesia, Hard Mode had stronger enemies showing up at early stages, and it seems that is also being done on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. I hope it won't be quite as bonkers as Order of Ecclesia, with its long hallways cluttered with flying enemies that kill you in two or three hits. I booted up Lv. 1 Hard Mode recently, and while some might disagree, it really feels like it was only intended to be attempted with endgame-level equipment and Glyphs from a New Game Plus.

Kickstarter link somewhat broken up there. Every kickstarter link like that turns into that rectangle image and leaves a bit of the URL address by the side as a text. I have made this error too many times to count in here, and I always end up doing this instead.

Thank you for fixing Gebel the GOAT. The initial faces in general were pretty off. Then again, I fully expected and encouraged a delay for absolute quality assurance. Nightmare mode is going to be interesting, but knowing me I'll playthrough the normal difficulty a couple of times only. This is a guy that has yet to beat SOTN despite trying numerous times.(My most recent try, I've gotten farther than ever though)

I'm glad to see that the Gebel update is being received so positively. I expected as much, but you never really know until you put it out there. Iga's team is really putting in the effort to make everythign look AND play great. We appreciate everyone's support and patience.

This is a guy that has yet to beat SOTN despite trying numerous times.(My most recent try, I've gotten farther than ever though) I'm somewhat surprised. I find that SOTN is one of the easiest ones to finish.
