OK, been a while since I have actually posted here (mostly I just hang around but I do check in almost every day). I've played the demo for around a week now, gave some time for everything to sink in past the WOW phase and came to some conclusions. First, this game is AMAZING I absolutely love it and this demo validated every good feeling I had about this kickstarter since day one. I also noticed that there is still some work to be done and it is our job as a community to help out, so I am doing my part. Basically from the day I got the demo I had a note pad with me and just wrote stuff as I went along and this is just meant to be and expanded version of that.
Now for the meat of this post, it will be broken down into a few basic sections, likes, dislikes and personal enhancements. I'll have another post in the bugs section for everything I found which was quite a bit.
LIKES: This just is anything that made a general impression or made me stop and just marvel at the game
1. Enemies can drop multiple items and the shard at once, huge QOL improvement, very much appreciated.
2. Zangetsu in the background of Galleon Minerva, didn't even catch it during the first playthrough. Hard to notice but a nice touch nonetheless.
3. Gameplay was smooth, hardly noticed framerate dips or anything. Beautiful visuals.
4. Saving is a quick and painless process, in and out.
5. Even if an item is stuck, if you touch it it will collect after a certain time. This is not necessarily good just appreciated, though I do wish you didn't have to touch it for this to happen.
6. Directional shards, especially upgraded arrows.
7. Arrow shard takes on status effects of equipped weapons, love throwing out a hail of stone or poison arrows. Please do not change this it is so fun!
8. Bosses feel difficult but fair, none of that boring attack phase defense phase garbage either. Bosses and yourself should always have an opportunity to be attacked.
9. Mini map options, move, resize, on/off ect... Good QOL stuff, always appreciated. Didn't even know I wanted it until it was there.
10. The music, oh my god the music. Nothing else to say.
11. Monster design is on point.
12. Katana zipping, if it gets fixed I'll honestly be a little sad but it is technically a bug.
Conclusion for likes: There's definitely more that I was just too engrossed the game to write down at the time or can't remember but overall the experience was excellent. On to the next section.
Dislikes: opposite of likes, not necessarily good or bad or even things I think need to be changed just disliked for whatever reason
1. Going from the Galleon and Town is jarring, I'm assuming this is already being worked on because it can't be pouring torrential rain one second and clear the next.
2. Also on the Galleon the textures look bad at the exit after it crashes on shore.
3. I would like it if you could accept multiple quests without leaving the menu every time, kinda repetitive to talk, accept quest, quest dialogue, intro, accept quest, quest dialogue, over and over. Especially with repeatable quests.
4. This is minor but shops should have an option for no intro dialogue, I believe you should be able to enter it as fast as your menu. The fade out, dialogue, fade in takes precious seconds every time.
5. The big one I keep seeing from other people, Miriam's face when talking. She resembles one of those singing bass people used to hang on the walls, it just looks bad, like really bad. Everyone else seems fine though, not sure what happened there.
Conclusion for dislikes: There are still some issues but they do not really detract from the overall experience which again was phenomenal. Not quite as large a section as likes but still, that means it's good right? NEXT!
Personal enhancements: Things I think could be good QOL or just would add to my personal experience, not everyone's.
1. Rotate the character model in the menu.
2. Clothes change with equips and maybe a cosmetic option for armor. Best looks and stats is always a winning combo for me.
3. Pulling of the special combos is a bit difficult, maybe just make it so you hold the button to finish optionally after the initial input. Quarter circle forward doesn't work well in quick succession.
4. I like that the direction shards are also mapped to the direction you're facing to make using the right stick optional but it would be nice if it fired forward while you're crouched instead of straight down underneath you.
5. Make touching items to collect them optional, like say if they get stuck in a wall maybe you could just leave the room and it grabs it for you. Even if it doesn't get stuck in a wall, would make farming those myriad materials much quicker and easier.
Edit: 6. Something that was mentioned to me that I kind of agree with is having a possible dedicated potion button so the game's pace isn't broken.
Conclusion for personal enhancements: Some of these like the clothing changing are a tad unreasonable and I know they would detract from other parts of the game so I'm fine if none of these make it through. Whew done with that!
Well I hope I made this easy and enjoyable enough to read through for the devs or any curious parties and that my experiences were either encouraging or helpful in some way. Once again it is looking very sharp and I am all the more excited to see where it goes from here.
