Imagine a "Mairim Doppelganger" random boss encounter if you get a good killstreak.
Can't spawn in special rooms like save rooms or at bosses, unless the boss is a doppelganger summoner.
Could be a future for a patch post launch of Bloodstained to keep it "fresh"?

I like it! A lot of other ARPGs have random events like this to surprise players with more challenging encounters as they're running around. The game could randomly spawn special variations of all sorts of existing enemy types that are stronger than usual, to spice things up from time to time.

If there is a Doppelganger in the game. It might be a shapeshifting "he". And if, that would mean, this doppelganger demon could take on many forms. This would make sense if Zangetsu met himself, or the third character did the same.

Seriously though, the idea isn't at all bad, if not a bit difficult to implement.
Not all rooms in the game are fit for a boss fight: making an AI that functions perfectly in any environment sounds like a lot of work for a single, effectively random boss fight. Now, if this idea wounded up spawning a whole slew of different "wandering monsters" that all used a variation of the AI, THEN I'd see it as a worthy time/resource investment for the devs.

Thanks. Well, there are ways to implement Doppelganger. If the same doppelganger are fit for a good kill-streak, it can be limited to those rooms with actual enough enemies. Or you collect a good killstream that will allow you to summon the Doppelganger once. Doppelganger could also be tied into new game plus, which makes this enemy appear a few random times in special locations. Not a boss, just a challenge. Which should be in places where you can ignore or not. Rules for Doppelganger should always be that it's a big higher in level than what you are - so its always harder. Doppelganger as a boss works too, or spawned by a boss.

I like the idea and Doppelganger bosses have been implemented in various previous Castlevanias to great success.
However, I don't like the random aspect of it (unless it's in rouguelike mode). This is not a game where random encounters are expected or a regular thing. It would be really annoying and unfair if you suddenly would have to fight a boss on your way to a save room or to the shop when you're out of potions and health. Such cheap deaths should be avoided in my opinion.
Maybe it would be fine if the game checked for your current health or amount of potions in your inventory before deciding to spawn a Doppelganger.

In this case there should be a really potent reward for engaging in combat with the Doppelganger. That way, players will be motivated to give it a try. Dead Cells has something similar with its elite enemies and the reward for beating those is usually worth the risk and effort.

As long as there's a reliable way to avoid it if I'm at low health, sure why not. Throw it in a DLC down the road. I'm sure the devs are already up to their eyeballs in content creation.

anonthemouse Mostly Koji that believes, if you buy a game - it should be completed. DLC is a thing, but not for story or experience, perhaps costumes or skins for weapons / bosses, but thats pretty much it. Unless they wanna make the exclusive stuff non-exclusive. Random encounter can be a future patch. It is almost like DLC, but automatic, and for everyone, free.
