That's weird, I remember there also being a limit in width in the rules. Am I remembering wrong or was that changed? I had made my own signature(s) with these limits in mind.
That aside, expression is great. I'm good with people going over the limits slightly to fit their needs, particularly if it's width-wise. The problem with this is that it's open to abuses. Like saucy people or those who want to feel special.

Conclusion: The rule is there [as something to refer to], but leave the freedom to the people. If some signatures are too big, dimensions or size wise, then do it case by case and request those people to change them. If it gets out of hand and happens too often, you may enforce the rule generally. This, at any rate, is my opinion.

There was a different size requirement for a long time but the width requirement was removed and the height requirement relaxed. Maximus has a good example here. On my screen it looks acceptable when they only post one line in a post. Their post is fully encompassed within the limits of their profile picture. If they had no signature it would still take up the same amount of space. Make a two line post though and suddenly they may have just written two paragraphs. I don't know the dimensions of Maximus' pic as I'm browsing from my phone. All of my signature pics are 200 high and they still bother me a little because most of my posts are long enough to push it down past my profile.

I guess we should consider if we even need a rule there at all. I just don't personally like the idea of most of a threads contents being signature images. It detracts from the legibility of the conversation.

Nah, I love the signatures here. The profile pics and signatures help me get to know my fellow fans. If I wanted to I could disable signatures for the whole site, but I think they are important.

Out of curiosity, does my gif Signature break the rules?

I can see it's bigger than my sig pic height, so yes, but I would have to be on my laptop to tell you the actual size.

All you need to do is insert "img" (with brackets, not quotation marks) right in front of the image url, no spaces, and then input "[/img]" right at the end.
