This is mostly due to do with the pistol. The pistol is fun to use, but sometimes you want to do a melee attack and sometimes you want to do an attack which doesn't consume a bullet of limited amount (for instance when you want to quickly break a lantern). It would be nice if you could select 2 weapons in the equipment screen which you can switch between at any time with a button press, or alternatively, there could be a button you can press for doing a low damage kick attack (that would be very convenient for destroying lanterns when you have a pistol equipped).

I agree on this, I wrote in my feedback thread that I would like a separate button entirely for using the equipped pistol. That way, it becomes a quick-use ranged option. It should also be cool if we could aim the gun 360 like with the directional shards.
I'm personally never using the pistols as they are now. It's a hassle to equip them when they have use in limited situations AND they consume finite bullets.

That existed in Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia. Dawn of Sorrow you had that by obtaining a Soul (Doppleganger) and you had 2 sets. Order of Ecclesia had a relic that would give you 3 sets.
I believe Bloodstained will have that. If you guys take a look at the 2017 demo, the equipment and shard menu had something called "Equipment set 1" and several (i think 8) small dots above the equipment menu. They intend to create whole sets of equipments (and shards) where you will most probably be able ot switch back and forth in real time.
Maybe we don't have it yet because it will be something obtainaible as a special item or maybe a Skill Shard of some sort.

This is mostly only an issue while equipping a gun, due to the desire to be frugal with ammo.
I would love to have the ability to switch weapons on the fly, but something like having a separate slot for guns would also work, and you could maybe shoot with R1 instead of the regular attack button.
My greatest desire however would be the SotN style of equipping two weapons which are activated by two different attack buttons.

Something along those lines are definitely needed for the guns. Or maybe even a button that toggles ammunition type, so you can quickly toggle to infinte bullets for smashing lamps and finding breakable walls. Really any of the suggestions so far would be good enough.

I agree we should have something like a set switch button or the ability to dual wield 1 handed weapons just like we were able to do in Castlevania Harmony or Despair. Being able to mix ranged and melee especially if there is an ammo system is crucial for the guns to feel more viable.

actually, what if the equipped ammo could be swapped or used through a special attack? say sonic boom/hadouken uses your equipped ammo and normal attack is the infinite, then you dont have to worry about using up your finite ammo on things like candles and weak enemies, but you dont have to menu constantly to swap back to infinite, and if there is a doppelganger relic this frees up your second equipment set for melee or a different ammo type

I don't believe there was anything mapped to the B button (as per the standard control set-up with the Xbox 360 controller), so maybe that would work for a set swap? Or even if the "bullet" type shards were activated with up+X like in previous games and Y served as the swap button and B was some type of special attack like in Dawn of Sorrow, or even a melee attack variant for ranged weapons.

maybe, but remember if we get new abilities they may take up some of the currently unused buttons, i currently have b as backdash and most of my shoulder buttons are unused (have directional shard mapped to r stick)

For sure. I was excited to use the gun, but then I realized it's quite a pain. No more could I cut down lanterns or weak enemies without feeling wasteful.
They could just get rid of the finite bullets, and put damage values on the guns themselves like any other weapon. That would make them less interesting, but at the same time, I would actually use them.
