This is just my opinion but, Miriam and Johannes sound and look older than I thought they'd be in english. I wonder if it is the same in Japanese? Maybe its a consequence of not really knowing her character and preconceived notions vs. 18th century characters "growing up" at an earlier age, but eh. I also wonder if perhaps the faces in the conversation might be served with a few gestures that go with the conversation. You can hear those mouth lips flapping bigly...there's no forgiving it, but I wonder why that is.
I think the battle cries can be mitigated, by having variations based on the attack, as well as having occasional swings elicit no grunt from her at all. Seama bubbles do not deserve the heroic "HAA!" that they sometimes get, that's for Hammer and Greatsword like attacks.

These are currently 2 of my complaints. The first cutscene needs better facial animation, and their lip movements cannot be left as is. Miriam's mouth looks terrible, and doesn't match the speed and tone with which she speaks.
The grunts and yells she does don't match half the situations she's in. The Shard acquisition has her exploding with pain, despite it being something she endures many times. It shouldn't be so extreme.
The weapon sound grunts are random, and she does half a 50/50 change it seems to either yell or stay quiet. But she does sound very loud and far too exerted when poking with a rapier or using a single swing of the whip.

My issue is misplaced events. How it is now ( opening, box, Seaman, shard, Morte ) during Morte event like they were surprised even tho they had the Seaman come in on them. Re-order the event like this ( opening, box, Morte, Seaman, shard ) making it more consistent with whats going on.

I switched to Japanese and started over shortly after leaving the first room, because I wasn't impressed with the English acting, and Miriam's combat voice was unpleasantly loud and forced sounding. The scream when she absorbs a shard for the first time was painful to listen to, and doesn't match the animation. I felt that her acting in dialogue wasn't bad, and the voice sounded reasonably appropriate, but the emotional range was too narrow, and the characters didn't translate well. The English dialogue was clunky; it was neither accurate enough to the Japanese to be considered a translation, nor was it good enough to stand on its own. I didn't have a good feel for the characters, their motivations, or their relationships until I switched to Japanese and watched the introduction again. Then it all made sense. Miriam's Japanese VA expressed a range of emotions throughout the few cutscenes in the demo, and it gave her a well-rounded personality. I'll have to play the demo again in English to comment on the characters' performances outside of Miriam and Johannes' initial dialogue, but in that scene, they both felt pretty flat in English. Not bad choices, necessarily, but a poor English script and poor direction.
As for the Japanese, I thought Miriam sounded a bit too breathy in that initial cutscene, but was fine later. Overall, I'm happy with her performance, particularly in combat, and for shard absorption. She manages to make it sound painful, but that she's able to tough it out and regain control. I actually thought Johannes sounds too young in Japanese for his model, but it may be that the model looks too old. Same with Anne. She sounds like a small child, but looks like a short, horribly disfigured adult. She's too tall for how she sounds. I didn't have any particular notes on the other characters, in either language.

Ugh, the pitfalls of localization....Now I'm really interested in what the japanese language version is saying. Too bad I don't know Japanese.

Don't worry about it, neff. I speak both languages, and there really isn't that big of a difference. The localization (as opposed to direct translation, which generally does not work) was actually very good I think. The meaning of everything is the same, with only some nuances changing between them.
Miriam in Japanese seems more chipper and "girly" in the the very first conversation, but in later conversation generally falls quite in line with the English one. I preferred the English version, because her tone in Japanese both did not quite fit the dire subject matter and subtle differences in the text made it feel like that was like their first conversation after she woke up, which felt a tad off.
Gebel seems just a tad more unhinged and out of control in Japanese. I like it, but the difference is really tiny.
The only real localization error I noticed was Dominique and her "As you can see, I know a thing or two about expelling demons". No Dominique, we most certainly did not see that. This should be simply "I am an exorcist sent by the church".
There will inevitably be differences in characterization simply due to how different voice actors work their magic, but so far I think both are on point and good. It's probably mostly about if you prefer the Japanese or western take on the character tropes presented.
