Igarashi dono and 505,
I have completed the beta demo. All I wish to let you know about it now is the following:
Visuals / Sound:
-Environmental details, lighting and color palette polish all only appear to be 80% finished.
-Some animations like criticals and level up still lack dazzle.
-Crystal absorb happens too fast and Miriam's scream sounds rough.
-Certain animations look rough or are missing like box pushing.
-Some sounds and music are missing from certain areas like the village and a certain boss counterattack.
-Sound design so far sounds muffled and restrained.
-There's a noticeable distortion in parts of this mix of the main theme.
-Spells and hit sparks look and sound a bit underwhelming.
-Some cut scene dialogue and animations need work.
-Some weapons feel like they need base attack combo animations.
-English voice actors were not instructed on how to pronounce Japanese names properly.
Gameplay:
-Movement overall still feels a bit too floaty.
-Jumping down through stairs vs. sliding on them is inconsistent.
-Aiming down at an angle is inconsistent with some weapons.
-Landing while firing the gun sometimes cancels the animation and erases the projectile mid-flight.
-Bugs; One was that I was able to obtain 0 HP without dying due to animation cancelling the death animation during a special attack.
-Most attacks feel like they lack heft and consequence.
-Special moves don't add more recoil or knock smaller enemies around when it feels they ought to.
-Though aiming the pistol would be powerful, not being able to when you can aim spells feels inconsistent.
-The boss still being hit-able in the background was not made very obvious visually.
Overall Completeness:
-Between 50% and 75%. There appears to be a minimum of 6 months worth of work remaining, not including pre-rendered cut scene animation and play testing.
Please excuse me for making this selfish request, but consider it anyway; I truly beg your forgiveness for this: It is my assessment that unless this build is several months old, it would be wise to push the game to Spring 2019 at this point. I know it will anger some fans, but sales and hype would be better long term if the game were 99% complete as originally envisioned before release.
Thank you for all your hard work! Continue to do your best, everyone. We are counting on you.
A fan and supporter,
-Blake
