I apologize if there's already been a discussion on this topic, but I just realized that there's no Japanese name or title for Bloodstained, Ritual of the Night.
To verify, I looked at the BitSummit website in Japanese, and under Iga's bio it writes out the name "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night" in English. Sure, you could always write it out in katakana... (ブラードステーンド), but they haven't....
For some reason, I find that fascinating (for example, see Red Ash, which has a Japanese title and an English title)... is that just me?

Anyway, they're putting weight on western gamers so they might just keep the original English title.
I prefer English title, personally.

I guess I kind of knew that, but it's interesting to see it play out (and in comparing to MN9/Red Ash, who have Japanese translations of their updates, etc).

Cool, qaantar's Jake pic is animated now. I wonder what the Japanese call stained glass.

Cool, qaantar's Jake pic is animated now. I wonder what the Japanese call stained glass. Stained glass is a western technique introduced in Japan, so, a Japanese Kanji word doesn't exist. Consequently, they try to write and speak it closer to English using KATAKANA, becoming ステンドグラス (SU.TEN.DO GU.RA.SU).

Well they ended up pointing out that "bloodstained" was a word that existed in English. With that kind of information I don't think it's so simple to translate it. It would probably come out as "The stain of blood" or something and lose its direct meaning.

Maybe the best thing to do is to translate the "Ritual of the Night", which can be "夜の儀式" (YO.RU NO GI.SHI.KI). To have an idea, it will be something like that: BLOODSTAINED 夜の儀式
ブラッドステインド 夜の儀式

The katakana one should appear in a little font under BLOODSTAINED in the Japanese version, just like other games.

I like the use of the sokuon in 'blood,' but I would use the elongated vowel in 'stained' instead: ブラッドステーンド
Minor different. Either way, what I have found interesting (and cool!) is that they are NOT doing that. It's Bloodstained.
Maybe they will incorporate it in the future, but so far they haven't bothered.... so I wonder if they will?

Speaking of Japanese, the Japanese title of SoTN is 月下の夜想曲 which actually means Nocturne under The Moon. That's why our little half-fairy cutie's song named Nocturne. (A very good one, indeed.) So I'm just thinking that maybe the Japanese title of RoTN might be something other than 夜の儀式. Maybe they'll spice it up a little bit EDIT: According to the prototype of SoTN, the original translation of 月下の夜想曲 is Nocturne in the Moonlight. If so, I have the Japanese Original Soundtrack for years and I was always wondering where this music comes from. Back to the SoTN name, indeed, the Japanese title is slightly different. And I agree that if they will use a Japanese title for Bloodstained, it will not be a literal translation of "Ritual of the Night". Edit: From the youtube video, I noticed that the singer is Shiina Hekiru

If so, I have the Japanese Original Soundtrack for years and I was always wondering where this music comes from. Yes. Originally this song is only included in the SS version of SoTN. Remember in the PS version there's an empty room with only 1$ coin in it at the Catacomb? Well, in SS version, there's an exclusive item named "Lyrics Card". Obtain it, make half-fairy as your familiar then sit on a chair for a while, there's a chance you could hear the half-fairy sing this song. Later, in the refined PS versions (Playstation the Best & PSone Books), they actually made this track into the game. Same condition, but they decided to left out the "Lyrics Card". All above is based on Japanese version of SoTN, as for North American version, they never introduce half-fairy into the game until PSP version is out (her name is changed into simply "Fairy", as the counterpart of "Faerie"). So if you have PSP version, you could do the trick as above. See more regional differences here: tcrf.net/Castlevania:_Symphony_of_the_Night_(PlayStation)#Regional_Differences(This page also include some interesting things that underlie in the code of SoTN, something like debug area, test area, unused sprites and tiles, etc.) I prefer to Japanese version of this song though, the lyrics is just beautiful and fits the atmosphere so well. EDIT: Oh, if you're very addicted to those little facts in SoTN (like the peanuts), check this out: www.geocities.jp/clearfeathers/nocturne/others.htmlBut unfortunately it's in Japanese. I could do some translation if needed

1) Very nice link. There are interesting facts I didn't know about regional differences. 2) About the JP link, my computer is not understanding the unicode and weird letters appear. BTW, it doesn't happen with other Japanese sites.

Well, Igarashi-san himself says "Bloodstained", I think I have red somewhere there will not be a different name. Like Castlevania stopped calling Akumajo from a moment, right ?

I imagine that, if they really wanted a Japanese title for this game (as in not Katakana), it would use different words rather than simply the direct translation for "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night".
Like how Castlevania's Japanese titles almost-always use Akumajou ("Devil's Castle"), and the subordinate title is always different between language versions (Symphony of the Night is known as "Nocturne in the Moonlight" in Japan; Dawn of Sorrow is known alternatively as "Cross of the Blue Moon").
What alternative title could we devise while still sticking to this game's themes?
Does this thread count as giving ideas to Lord IGA?
