First off, this is my first post here. So, I apologize if it's off topic or anything contained has already been addressed etc.
I'm currently wrapping up a semester abroad in Kyoto, and it was pure luck that I was able to see everyone at BitSummit today. Actually, I just finished an all nighter studying for finals next week and stayed up through today so I could be there.
I've heard that Mr. Judd frequents these forums, so I'd like to ask him a couple questions. I didn't want to bother him at the event because he looked really busy and my questions are a bit in-depth. It's my hope to start a career in the games industry in the next couple of years, as I finish up my Computer Science degree. So Ben, if you're reading:
1. Could you summarize any of the key points mentioned during your interview with Igarashi-san, Inafune-san, and Aizu-san? I was only able to grasp the main themes and general feeling of the conversation since I've only been studying Japanese for just under a year. I understand if you don't remember specifics, you had a lot going on.
2. Was it difficult for you as gaikokujin to get a job at Capcom, and what do you think the general attitude towards gaikokujin is within the games industry? I've heard that some industries in Japan basically don't hire foreigners, and others give them precedence as long as they speak Japanese. On that note, how fluent was your Japanese when you started working for Capcom?
3. Japan is typically a risk averse society. In general, the entrepreneurial spirit we celebrate in America is seen more as risky, unnecessary behavior. Rather, the path to prestige is through established mega-corporations. One of my professors said, only half-jokingly, that it's better to be a janitor at Mitsubishi than the president of your own start up. Assuming all of this is more or less true, how are the actions of Igarashi-san and his peers being received by major industry companies, the media, and the public? What percentage of Kickstarter funds came from the Japanese Kickstarter?
Thank you so much for your work on Bloodstained! And of course, if anyone else wants to pitch in, feel free to!

Welcome to the forums, chrisloven! While I'm not Mr. Judd, one thing to remember is that IGA isn't going this entirely alone--he's working with a lot of established talent, ranging from his old colleagues to Init Creates. So that might influence any risk assessment

You might want to read this, as it answers a good number of your questions: www.nodontdie.com/ben-judd/As for this question: "What percentage of Kickstarter funds came from the Japanese Kickstarter?" You probably won't be able to get an answer for that one until they gather all their data and complete the backer surveys, but for reference the Might Number 9 campaign had a minuscule amount of Japanese backers, if I recall correctly. Hope Ben drops by to answer you though.
