I hope I'm not breaking the rules by doing this.. I was concerned if where I posted my original question the right space and was really honestly looking for a conversation on this subject.
So now that people have put out the OST and the game has been out long enough to digest, I have an honest question for you guys:
I know people have been praising the Curse of the Moon OST, and since it's supposed to be the Castlevania spiritual successor, I've been wondering what people thought about the comparison between it's OST and Dracula's Curse(specifically the Japanese version), since the games are closely related. What do you guys think?
Here was a video that was done on the subject as well to provide some context behind my question:

The music is wonderful, overall it feels like C3 is a bit more pop-oriented in its sound, going for energetic, shorter melodies in tandem or cluster, which makes the music really catchy ad ear-wormy, while Bloodstained goes for a more complex sound, preferring layers and more classical arrangement styles with longer-form melodies. It often might not be as catchy but is gorgeous to listen to. This is overall, but not exactly the case for ALL songs, of course, just as a trend. I wouldn't say either soundtrack is overall better than the other myself, but I love the BCOTM soundtrack so much just in general, and it's absolutely a worthy spiritual successor to the monster that is the Castlevania III soundtrack.

So spot on. I don't know if I would call it "pop" though, but I get your point. CV3 feels more funky and groovy(which I certainly don't equate to pop haha) to me vs classical. And yeah COTM is definitely way more complex. Even the arrangements are like twice the size of CV3 for sure

For me: I like the soundtrack of CV3 far more. I love it. The soundtrack for BS:COTM is just decent to me. Nostalgia probably plays a role, but I think it only influences me mildly. I also like fx. the soundtrack of CV1 and CV2 over this one, but CV3 and CV4 are among my favourite Castlevania soundtracks.
That said I quite liked the game and have and will recommend it, but it's more based on gameplay, character design and the like. The soundtrack was the weakest part of the game to me. And the music is usually among my main reasons for loving the CV games actually. It's what I remember most afterwards, at least: The atmospheres and moods they created.

I'll definitely take CotM's soundtrack over CV3's. As much as I still love classic Castlevania themes, I think CotM has surpassed it.

To quote the neutral people....I don't feel strongly about this in one way or the other. Both are excellent soundtracks for their respective time periods. CotM does a pretty good job at capturing the sounds of a retro game and it shows. While CV3 IS a retro game, so the music had more of that 80's gothic feel to it. Brooding atmospheres, yet still upbeat enough to pop a bit.

I had to think about this for a while. I also reviewed some of the music from CV3 'cause I haven't played it in years. I think I can say without much hesitation now that Curse of the Moon is better.
Ritual of the Night is even better though.
This is just my opinion obviously, but I feel like whenever Michiru Yamane puts out a new OST, it's one of the greatest things I've ever heard.

I think that Castlevania III's OST is significantly better than Curse of the Moon's. Some of that is due to the fact that there are more songs to work with in CVIII, but I just think they're more interesting and atmospheric overall. Don't get me wrong, I like what Curse of the Moon has, but like the game itself compared to CVIII, the whole thing seems more artificial. The creativity is just dripping from Castlevania III's OST, like this often-forgotten gem when you enter a dank cavern/catacomb:
The way the melody staggers itself invokes the gradual climb up from the depths and the presence of water in a solid, murky environment.
As an aside, I actually prefer some (perhaps even many) of the NES arrangements over the Famicom ones. Besides "Demon Seed" above, there's also "Rising" on the NES:
It feels way more tense and eerie.
