I just realized that the way they fit a 2d area into the castle has been placed in front of us the whole time.

The description said that she watches over a portion of the castle. She can use portals to go into different dimensions. Maybe that's why she was the first boss revealed? They had to figure out how to fit 2d into play. Maybe we go into a portal into another dimension for her part of the castle.... A SECOND DIMENSION ..... 2 .... D......

very neat, and it makes loads of sense now. I was wondering how it could work.

I theorized that the retro level will be Hell/demon world on the other side of stained glass portal. Similar theory albeit not quite the same. Can't wait to find out!

I'll just quote myself from another thread here. And add something I thought of at the end.

Something that'd be a really iconic callback to the Castlevania series. I have several ideas:

A hallway with staircases and BIG windows. There was also a similar "Callback area" in Dawn of Sorrow, that wasn't just a straight hallway, called Silenced Ruins. The place with the bat swarm boss.
The clocktower area with the spinning gears everywhere.
The castle's keep with the big moon in the background and outside stairs that go from right to left. Iga could be sitting on the throne. It'd be HILARIOUS if the fight with him started in the retro style and then at his "second form", the screen blurred out and the game went back to the normal 3D graphics, so the first phase would be retro and the second phase would be normal graphics. Even better if Iga said (same voice clip in both language versions) "Behold my true power!", implying that his greatest power is turning from a 2D sprite into a 3D model.

If we are going to have a topic dedicated to this portion of the castle I might as well quote myself from the other thread:

I remember IGA saying that though the beastiary for this game would focus on the Lesser Key of Solomon, he still had a fondness for the old-school monsters. I know one section of the castle is supposed to be a "retro level" with retro graphics and all that. It would be kind of interesting if in this retro section you would find those old school monsters (werewolves, mummies, etc.). It would be even cooler if that section of the Castle was in Black & White for the full "retro" flavor.

I'm not sure what type of castle section would best correspond to that though. A morgue or cemetery (within the castle yard)? A library?
