Hardware wise the Wii U has a 3 core IBM Espresso CPU clocked at 1.24ghz with 2gb of system ram (last gen consoles had 512mb) and a modified Radeon HD 4800 series functioning as its GPU. Fast multi-core processors is not a guarantee of compatibility and smooth operation. And as far as the GPU goes the key word in your description is " modified". And the Espresso CPU is a different architecture yet again from Intel, Apple, and the processors used in Android devices. No that isn't cutting edge, but saying it would be difficult to make it run while dropping the same engine on mobile platforms is ironic and slightly hilarious. I'm not saying that it wouldn't have the power to run the engine in some capacity. But to think that it can run U4 unaltered at full capacity IS hilarious. And again you are ignoring the dramatic differences in system architectures between the PC, mobile, and WiiU platforms. The PC and mobile platforms have far more in common than the mobile and WiiU platforms.

Possible but given their attitude in the past towards the system I don't think its specs had alot to do with their decision. (ala my previous post)

It wasn't technical reasons at all. www.videogamer.com/news/unreal_engine_4_games_could_be_ported_to_wii_u_epic.htmlEpic has been unclear about the Wii U's support for UE4 in the past, with Epic co-founder Mark Reintelling Videogamer that Epic doesn't intend to bring the engine to Wii U, but that "if a customer decides they want to port an Unreal Engine 4 game to Wii U, they could." I figured I'd ask straight-out, so during the Q&A with Rein, I did. "Will UE4 run on the Wii U?" "Hahaha no." Rein said, with expert comedic timing. The room erupted with laughter. As the laughs died down, Rein continued: "I mean, sorry, it's not really a correct answer. We're not… we have Unreal Engine 3 for the Wii U. Right? And Unreal Engine 3 is powering all kinds of amazing games, still lots of games are being made with Unreal Engine 3. We announced today about a new Unreal Engine 3 license. Unreal Engine 3 doesn't disappear because of Unreal Engine 4. But our goal for Unreal Engine 4 console-wise is next-gen consoles. That's really what our energies are focused on. If you want to make a Wii U game, we have Unreal Engine 3, and it's powering some of the best games on the Wii U already. "Nothing controversial, guys. Key phrase in that whole thing is, "if a customer decides they want to port an Unreal Engine 4 game to Wii U, they could." I see that as a translation of "I see no need to do yet another port of our new engine for an older system that it's not designed for and that we already have a working engine for. Especially since we have no plans to discontinue the older engine. But if someone wants to do the port, I'm not going to tell them no. We just aren't going to be the ones to do it." Translation: We're asshats trololol no That was unnecessary and uncalled for.

The more repetitive castle layouts were due mostly due to budget and time constraints (remember how often IGA et al had to pump those games out?). I don't expect that to be a problem for this game.
I will agree with a lot of the complaints regarding the shops. So often I found no reason to actually buy anything - you'd find better equipment and enough healing items just over the course of the game that money eventually game useless commodity.

I seem to recall at the very beginning of the game buying a couple items from Hammer's shop but after opening up the third area in the castle or so I was pretty much only going back for healing items and occasionally selling items to build up money for the soul eater ring....

As much as I'm enjoying the conversation about hardware and game engine I think this thread has strayed from the original topic which deserves a good deal of thought. Candle whipping is important to upholding the legacy of Castlevania games, so what is the best way to use the drops from candles? The candle skeleton has an important role in the castle. Let's make his salary go up by stressing the importance of the candles.

To be clear, I'm not just speaking of Aria of Sorrow but most Igavanias. I feel like Order of Ecclesia was the only time I visited the shop frequently but I'll be honest in that my memory is a bit hazy since it's been a while since I played that game. I replayed SOTN during the Bloodstained campaign and once you got the Blue Orb that opens those sealed doors there was literally no reason to set foot in the shop ever again.

@cecil-kain This is a bit off-topic, but...
I just noticed the "Operation: Akumajo" title on your avatar. So, correct me if I'm wrong, you're definitely one of those fans who wants a new Castlevania with Julius Belmont as the main playable character?

So, correct me if I'm wrong, you're definitely one of those fans who wants a new Castlevania with Julius Belmont as the main playable character? Yes, I'm actually the founder of Operation: Akumajo. The 1999 Demon Castle War starring Julius Belmont was our top priority until just recently. The last few months have proven that Konami can no longer be trusted. President Hideki Hayakawa's mobile first and microtransaction agendas are completely unacceptable. The last thing we need is a half-assed Castlevania for Android and iPhone. If they won't make the Demon Castle War for home consoles, they shouldn't make it at all. In a perfect world, Bloodstained outsells Lords of Shadow, Konami sees the error of their ways, and Igarashi either scores the license or buys the rights. But that's a faraway dream for now... So Julius got sidelined to give Bloodstained our full attention and support going forward.

Don't mind Galamoth, he's entirely optional.
castledan had earlier said that hearts wouldn't be back, but have they actually been de-confirmed? It's hardly a Castlevania-specific game pickup and I think I would certainly prefer them back. Maybe somewhat different in appearance? Glass/crystal shapes? It won't be the same if there's not something falling with a floating leaf's trajectory after we hit candles. That's one of those little aesthetic touches that really made the games special.
The quintessential most-often-seen power-up that we'll be getting (the "heart") doesn't have to be exactly like that, but it should be no less iconic and charming. Hopefully, anyway.

At any rate, now back on-topic...
I don't know if someone said it already in this thread, but didn't IGA (or Ben Judd) mention that Miriam could recharge her own MP meter, via throwing wine-glasses to "charge up"? (This certainly may not be final)
I'm trying to remember where I saw that info from before... I'm sure it was either IGA or Ben Judd that said something like that, as a "maybe".

Ah, there we go! Thank you very much. I knew there was something like that. Though, "Winestained" (lol) will only temporarily increase the effectiveness of certain abilities for Miriam. This actually seems more appropriate. ^ I wonder if we'll get a bonus buff...or at least an Achievement, if the thrown wine-glass actually strikes and/or kills an enemy. I can easily tolerate sitting on magical thrones found throughout the Castle if it means a faster way to regenerate MP. I don't think the various candles in the Castle will need to drop the equivalent of "Hearts".

I can already see the youtubers doing boss rush, and finishing off every boss battle with a wine glass throw attack hehe.
I remember Igarashi was asked if there'll be an equivalent to having candles in ROTN, and he said he believed that candles were good for the flow/tempo of the game (or something like that). Pretty sure it was in one of the ask videos or the reddit AMA. It may be not beneficial for Miriam, but there's always the other two characters to take into consideration. Since she's the first protagonist though, hopefully they'll still be of use.

I imagine the throne will be a supplemental or occasional type thing, some kind of limited use special move and maybe not the primary means of restoring mana/MP.
I think it's safe to assume that candles will at least be a source of money drops...probably one or more other categories of items. Maybe sometimes materials that the sconces themselves are made of to use in transmutation recipes?
