Just realized there's no thread on this game yet, so I decided to make one. So, anyone here back the game? Looking forward to it? Enjoy this style of game? Let the discussion commence! Personally, I backed it and ended up getting a Steam digital copy and a console digital copy, which I'll be redeeming on Wii U. This is my number two most anticipated game after Bloodstained (actually, it's probably a tie between this and Shantae: Half-Genie Hero). Meantime, I've started playing the first Jak and Daxter in order to get into the collect-a-thon mood. Collecting all those eggs makes me feel like it's Easter all over again--not that there's anything wrong with that!

I went with the 35 pounds version. Exchange rates made me very hesitant to go further but digital copy and toy box are okay.

I backed it, but not much. While I support them and what they're doing, I'm really not a fan of the character designs. It just feels "off" for me.

I'm a backer too, I backed the project in the last days of the campaign, I didn't pledge very high, just to get the game, but I'm enjoying too much this new videogames era of spiritual successors!
I also backed up Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero! That's my second most anticipated game!

Just a heads-up for everyone here who backed Yooka-Laylee: post-kickstarter surveys have been emailed to backers. There is also a Paypal donation deadline on August 3rd. (Also, Playtonic teamed up with Team 17 for things like QA testing and localization management).

I backed this at the 10 quid. This is the second kickstarter I've ever done.
By the way, has everyone here seen this yet?

This one hurts a bit, I'm sure. However, it verbalizes fairly well what is arguably one of the biggest problems facing high-value Kickstarters (and as Derek himself implies at the end, hopefully Bloodstained can beat thanks to having a publishing arrangement).

i had fun with it, i think the worlds couldve been tightened up to cut down on empty space and the collectibles a little better placed or more added to cut down on "have i been here before" moments, and ive only had a couple collectibles so far that have been straight up guide dang its, like 3 quills and a ghostwriter in the last world that are in spots with no indication you can even interact with them
it wasnt a perfect game, and it has problems inherent to the genre like the camera and occasionally slippery controls and a few rage inducingly hard collectibles (damn you slide pagie!), but id say it was a damn good game that kept me searching every nook and cranny for hours and i still havent found everything yet since i havent backtracked through every world ive been to, but i hope theres a sequel and it can refine what theyve got going with this game

Meh, it's not that bad. It's an okay game, and it delivered extacly what it promised, sho I'm not too sure what the deal is in that regard.

I think that people usually think that this games are the second coming of the genre or for it to fix the issues with the genre itself, which weren't happening. The genre died for a reason. I backed it (don't remember what tier exactly) and I'm awaiting the code for the switch version (which I still don't own, btw) ever since the Wii U version got canned. Honestly, not expecting a lot, just a solid plataformer, which this title seems to be anyway.

Maybe people just have fonder memories of B&K than reality warrants? And.... it has a trouser snake. That's pretty much golden.

Imho, while a lot of people have nostalgic feelings for Banjo-Kazooie, a lot of those nostalgic individuals likely forgot that it takes a certain mindset/personality to really enjoy a game structured like that. Bear in mind I haven't played Yooka-Laylee, so I can't comment on the game's actual quality. Though I do have a friend who's played the game and he really liked it.
It was a bit over-hyped as well. And really, it makes me slightly worried about what critical reception Bloodstained will receive. Will Bloodstained be seen through an overly critical lens because people let their expectations get a tad too high?

It was a bit over-hyped as well. And really, it makes me slightly worried about what critical reception Bloodstained will receive. Will Bloodstained be seen through an overly critical lens because people let their expectations get a tad too high? I think that the answer to that question is certainly "yes" -- but to what extent? Will it be a vocal minority that complains bitterly, or will there be a broader segment with that feeling? The resurrected properties appears to be somewhat of a mixed bag -- for example, Shroud of the Avatar seems to be doing pretty well. Then again, they've been in development even longer, with the game available to everybody during nearly all that time. And it's a bit of a unique community. The Myst resurrection (Obduction) did OK, though not without challenges. Shantae did fine, but it iterated on a really well-trodden formula. Rad Rodgers (Commander Keen) also did OK, but wasn't too well known (?). Might No. 9 did not survive the hype (neither did Red Ash, but those are linked). Bard's Tale IV, Underworld Ascendant, and Shenmue 3 all still remain to be seen. Of course, looking over the list of games that I've backed, what's been shocking (but really shouldn't be) is the number of new games that have just gone belly up. Ones that you would have thought would never make it (Night in the Woods) turned out incredible. Others that you thought were solid have turned pretty rotten (Starr Mazer -- seriously, nothing heard in 8 months... and there's more than a few like that. Ouch).

Will it be a vocal minority that complains bitterly, or will there be a broader segment with that feeling? Maybe a bit of both. Over-hyping and/or impossible expectations know no bounds, after all. I think there's a big chance a vocal BROAD segment will dislike it simply because "it's not better than SotN". Let me start this next opinion by also making it VERY clear I THINK SotN is a good game overall. But the problem is that the "it's not better than SotN" will be tied more to nostalgia than anything else. Nothing will be able to beat SotN for a particular segment of the backers simply because you aren't a young kid (or teen) playing the first Metroidvania anymore. Nostalgia doesn't work that way.
