Greetings, army of the night!
Bloodstained at PAX West 2017 was a success! What did we go there to do? Glad I asked!...
Now don't go expecting pictures of a 2 story tall Miriam statue or a gigantic party or anything, my plan for PAX West was to get the most benefit while not dedicating some huge chunk of the budget...and we did that! Definitely no "Ant Simulator" shenanigans here. (wait...can I make that joke?)
That said, these were some of our goals:
So, on to the results! (and pics)
Did we stay less than 48 hours? Almost to the hour, we operated with near-Swiss precision. Except, you know...not as much chocolate. Or gold.
Did we attend the event and the "Crowdfunding for Indies to AAA Titles" panel? You bet! Unfortunately our video equipment malfunctioned (sorry), but I have the next best thing, check out some pictures we took.
Breakfast time! Got an early start before Mana and Iga because I had some work to do. So incredibly tasty, strawberry-orange juice (who knew that was a thing!), a bowl of mixed fresh fruit, and a bunch of other things I tasted, but I couldn't eat all of it. Except that bread pudding in a tin...omg so tasty....505 Games definitely treats its devs (and its own) right!
Meet the panelists! They all laugh and joke around as they meet and greet each other. From left to right: Mana Ikeda (ArtPlay), Koji Igarashi (ArtPlay), Peter Bartholow (CEO-LabZero Games), Brandon Adler (Producer-Obsidian Entertainment), Josh Sawyer (Designer-Obsidian Entertainment) and Victor Lucas (Host-EPN.tv)
Mana hard at work translating for Iga! I can tell from Peter's expression he's thinking the same thing I do when I hear Japanese: "Where's the subtitles? This isn't like my anime?!"
Fans eagerly lined up to ask questions of all the panelists, believe it or not, Mighty No. 9 only came up 347 times! (Ok not really, just once).
Once the panel was over, there were so many people that wanted to pose for pictures with Iga, I lost count! I somehow ended up taking pictures with everyone's phones, but I did snap a few with my own!
You can almost see what that fella is thinking..."Sooo awesoooome" (Dude in the shorts seems to be enjoying himself too)
On to the interviews, with the help of Mana translating, Iga was able to give almost a dozen press and media interviews, ranging 30-60 minutes each, in a single day! They'll be popping up online in the days to come as PAX West comes to a close.
Finally, the team and I met face to face with a few partners we work with! One of these included the fine folks at Fangamer, and let me tell you, they are super awesome people, and I was already happy to be working with them before, but now I'm even more convinced that we're going to kick some serious *** when it comes to Bloodstained. We talked about Kickstarter plans, creating and delivering the rewards, and some other juicy things...(muahahas quietly)
We also met and talked extensively with some partners that I can't divulge just yet, because if I tell you who they were it kinda ruins the surprise. Rest assured though, that even when at events I never stop working to make sure you all get the most exciting and awesome things out of this Bloodstained launch campaign, and of course that the game gets the coolest stuff too!
A big thank you to Iga and Mana for working tirelessly and being so professional throughout it all, and to my colleagues at 505 Games who helped set it up and worked the event with me!
We really enjoyed everyone who came to say hello and meet us, and to those of you who couldn't because of distance etc., well don't worry...there's a LOT more amazing things you never would have expected coming along...

That said, these were some of our goals:
- Stay no more than 48 hours on site, to minimize Iga's time away from home/working on the game.
- Attend the event and be accessible to the public/fans via panels & meet and greets.
- Give as many interviews as possible to press/media behind the scenes.
- Continue to improve, or in some cases establish, our relationships with partners who are helping to make Bloodstained great!
