At the beginning of this year, at the Content Contributors thread, the backers that backed high enough to be able to contribue to the game's content, specifically on weapons, received information on how that would be done. With that information, we could knew how many types of weapons Bloodstained will have, among other things.
I did a thread just revealing this before. Since then, we have had new people at the forums, so, it is time to reveal this again, but not only that. I believe it is time for me to ASK QUESTIONS and get answers, as i always do!
Maybe i did some of those questions before, but i will do some of them again because why not?
First, the official information regarding weapons.
TYPES AND ANIMATIONS
The official weapon types and [animation] motions are, as follows:Shoes [kicking]
Single Handed Sword [Single Handed Slash]
Mace [Single Handed Slash]
Knife [Single Handed Pierce]
Rapier [Single Handed Pierce]
Great Sword [Two Handed Slash]
Axe [Two Handed Slash]
Katana [Upward Diagonal Slash]
Two Handed Spear [Two Handed Pierce]
Whip [Whipping]
Gun [Shooting]
ATTRIBUTES
The official weapon attributes* are, as follows:None
Fire
Ice
Lightning
Light
Dark
(*As a reminder, Guns doesn't have attributes. Their bullets have. So you can buy FIre or Ice Bullets to put at your gun, for instance).
OPTIONS REGARDING STRENGTH
Weapons will also have two different options, regarding it's overall strength. Copying the exact text sent for contributors:Option 1 - Your weapon can be obtained through enemy drops and/or throughout the castle (along with the other in-game weapons). The strength of your weapon and spawn location will be decided by the team, and therefore, may have weaker or stronger stats compared to the other weapons in the game. This weapon cannot be upgraded, however it can be encountered in every playthough.
Option 2 - Your weapon starts off weak, but will have the potential to become one of the strongest weapons in the game if you level it up. This weapon type will be categorized under "Backer Weapons” (temporary name) which the player can only hold one of at a time (but they can be swapped out for other Backer Weapons at an in-game shop). Please keep in mind that this weapon type will not be listed in the game’s item collection glossary, and will be an optional weapon for players to encounter in each playthrough.
THE QUESTIONS
Considering all that, i ask:1) Each type probably exists to have some fundamental difference one another, shared by all weapons of that type. Axes are probably "overall slower" and "overall stronger" then other weapons and such. What do you think will be the main characteristics of each weapon type (or what you hope)? You can list each one and talk about it, if you will.
2) It was revealed, when Kickstarter as still going, that the whole Sword or Whip and such, would be a hidden way to select what type will be the strongest overall weapon of the whole game and the winner was a Katana. Even so, do you believe (or hope) that each weapon type will have it's "strongest" or some types will fall behind others?
3) The official attributes for the weapons are organized in a interesting fashion. You don't have all the basic nature elements (fire, water, wind, earth). instead, we have three nature elements (Fire, Ice and Lightning) and two good / evil elements (Light, that is probably focused on sacred damage and dark). That division is actually based on some Igavanias and some other games. Megaman Zero (whose Inti Creates helped create) for instance, actually has the same nature elements (Fire, Ice and Lightning).
What do you think of that choice? (excluding earth, water, wind). Do you believe a Igavania game works better with more simple and restricted elements like that? Or would you prefer if they had expanded those attributes? Or maybe, you believe there WILL BE other attributes, but they can't be on weapons...
4) "Please keep in mind that this weapon type will not be listed in the game’s item collection glossary, and will be an optional weapon for players to encounter in each playthrough."
What do you believe that means? That the option 2 weapons are well hidden and secret, so, the player may not find it? Or maybe, each playthrough will just have few of them to be found (changing each new game+), requiring the player to replay the game a lot of times to finally get them all? (And that's why they aren't at the game's item collection glossary, to not piss off completionists into replaying the game over and over again to get them all?). Or maybe something else?
5) Special attacks for weapons is something that has conflicting information as of now (at least as far as i remember). IGA and dev team never completely confirmed they will exist, but many talks were made about them (it is the same about special commands for Miriam herself, Alucard-style). Do you believe weapons will have special attacks? If yes, do you believe they will pull out some creative things like Shield Rod combinations and such?
6) Where forging enters on all of this? Forging is still in the game, as far as we know, so, do you believe we will be able to forge only Option 1 weapons? Or both Option 1 and Option 2 weapons? Or maybe only Option 2 weapons?
That's all folks!
