Hard to describe what I mean in title alone.
Basically one thing I've always wanted to do in various gaming forums that nobody ever seems to bother to reply to...Is have a kind of 'potluck' gaming thing. Where instead of everyone bringing their own food for everyone to enjoy, everyone suggesting a personal favorite game for everyone to play. Now it's wrong to just make a suggestion and just assume everyone will go out and play the game unless it's free, so that's the rule... the game has to be free.
Each person is allowed to suggest ONE free game of their choice, and by doing so they have to promise that they'll spend time (I suggest an hour or so.. more if you like the game and want to spend more time) trying each and every game everyone else suggests in the thread (all 0 of them most likely) before suggesting their own, and after doing so, promise (WITH YOUR BLOOD) to try every game suggested afterwards... people are encouraged to screenshot scores, record playthrus, whatever, but not needed I suppose since I'm more interested in any interest at all!
The purpose of this? I'm a gamer, and a semi-competative gamer...But unlike professionals, I dont' like committing to just one game, I like to challenge my general proficiency of all gaming types (except fighting games, blech.. though I'll play those too, and post my awful scores for people to mock), and there is really no better way than to challenge myself publicly for that than to make a thread like this and hope it gets activity.
I'll post my own free game suggestion after 3 other posts, should they ever happen. I don't want to look like I'm makign this thread just to suggest a game..
If people participate and we reach a point where everyone made a suggestion and no new people show up, then we go for 2nd game suggestion/challenges.

One of the most frustrating, keyboard-destroying games in existence. ...And there are even harder fan-made versions of the game. (Like the game simply titled "I Wanna Be The Fan-Game") Hearkening back to the days of Nintendo-Hard NES & SNES titles. |

 Five tries on a clean save, so none of the attempts would knock any of the other ones off the high score list.  I'd rather not tussle with I wanna be the guy, and besides, you're only technically supposed to suggest one game in this thread, or at least one game at a time.  |

I'd rather not tussle with I wanna be the guy, and besides, you're only technically supposed to suggest one game in this thread, or at least one game at a time. Yeah, I'm aware of that rule. I just decided to suggest two games in one post because those are the only two free games off the top of my head that I'd love to see others play. I got excited when I saw 6 posts but had my life's dreams shattered at the lack of enthusiasm ='(. Anyway I already played IWTBTG and nobody else seems to want to try it... I WILL play it again though, and will even record myself for the lulz (I haven't played it in like 6 years and I'm boozshed up right now so I'll suck extra). But I did some unicorn thingie... I don't like those run across the screen as obstacles fly past as it goes faster and faster game, plus there's a billion, but hey, I wont be a poor sport. i59.tinypic.com/nevxfr.pngI didn't play for very long, maybe like 10 minutes. otherwise I'd play for hours trying to get a good score =P note those first two games have REALLY bad scores because I thought when it said dash thru stars it meant the fairies or whatever they are. I thought the stars kill you dash or not =P Also, if you're going to suggest a game, please provide a link or a download link (minus any viruses or anything! =P) Also, assuming all free games are bad is a sad sad thing. That's kind of the purpose of this thread, to advertise good free games, as well as have some friendly competition. |

Well, fudge you then I propose this. Also, there has been only one guy proposing 2 games and I still won't play IWBTG so I'll try robot unicorn attack later (I had RUA2 on my smartphone for a long time, that's why I was reticent to play that one too)

I checked that cookie 'game' link... I clicked 1k times for some achievement (got several before but didn't want to click 3k for the next)...that's not a game... there's no challenge or opposition or goal. do people really think that games are incapable of being fun or good if they're free? That's kinda sad IMO. anyway this thread is a flop as I expectd, but on the remote chance someone cares, the game I was hoping to link first was phantasm romance. It's a shmup (r-type, gradius, touhou, etc)..a free one that is a fan-game of sorts to touhou. It took me like a month to get it to work properly so rather than link how to install it I simply uploaded my own folder, it probably has my replays too...they'er mine so if you play it and claim credit I'll know =P. Anyway, dl it here www.mediafire.com/?1ehztpmtu5h38bhI'm pretty sure it's not virus infected or anything, but please scan it with whatever scanner you use. 'z' is shoot/ok 'x' is bomb or cancel. shift is focus mode (hold to move slower for more accurate movement..it also makes most shot types narrow their area of effect, doing more damage to a smaller area) hit escape to open the menu mid-game...it shouldn't take long to figure out the menu and whatnot, but if anyone actually tries the game and has issues I'll try my best to help! |

Any of the "GemCraft" series. Probably one of the things that got me hooked on tower defense. Do note that Labyrinth and the non-Steam version of Chasing Shadows are "Freemium"
Chasing Shadows' Iron Wizard mode is on my list of "eventually-at-some-point-down-the-line attempt to speedrun on Twitch" games.

Just saw this post (that participated button doesn't work 100% for me I swear). But Gemcraft is...uhh..I played the first game, then the 2nd (I think that was chapter: 0? or was that the 3rd? whatever, I thought chapter 0 was the best one back then even though people liked the previous one more at the time) when they were only on kongregate (or whatever flash game site). They were cool, I'll grant that, but I did get bored after awhile... but they each gave me over 10-20 hours of enjoyment, which is a lot for a free game right? So yeah, good suggestion. I never did finish them though, but still worth checking out! My biggest beef was that some gem elements seemed to be really incapable of doing what they were meant to until extremely high ranks.. like the flame gem for example was supposed to do splash damage, but even after upgrading its rank several times, the splash was so small that it would never hit anything but its target, which was kind of bad since its damage was lower than the other games to begin with! one really cool thing about the game though is that unlike so many other tower defense games, the game really does offer you many different strategies to conquer a stage, not like a 100% 'correct' strategy that others are incapable of matching. So you would often emply countless different strategies for stages you already beat just to see what you do best with, it was pretty rewarding to see multiple strategies work at the same thing, but yet the game wasn't easy enough for you to bang your head on the keyboard to win.. hard to explain. Basically, the lack of music, the dull art, etc made the game hard to really enjoy for hundreds of hours to me, but the balance is a masterpiece. |
