Pretty sure there's no topic about this and if there is I apologize destroy this one. We have no clue if there's a transformation in this game but why not have some fun and speculate on what transformations could consist of in Bloodstained? Also, what mechanics would you like utilized for them?
Figure i'd try to generate some conversation here. Seems quiet lately.

A crystal wolf, or a crystal demon form.

I'm not certain transformation powers is something that would work. Miriam's marks and the condition of the crystal curse seem to suggest that she is trying to stave off a transformation already.

They could come up with some reason to explain it away, they always do with game mechanics. This topic serves no real purpose because they're well into production and who knows if they have this system or not but why not have some fun discussing possibilities? Anyways, I think a cool mechanic for transformations would be an evolving function. POKEMON STYLE. Imagine getting a Stained glass Bat form or Eagle.....and your transformations level up the more you use them. Eventually it'll take on a new visual form with improved functions. Maybe I'll draw up some ideas and post them at some point. Be a fun to pass time.....turns into a transformation fan art thread.

I feel transformations should be built around both utility and combat efficiency. While I don't have any good ideas for specific transformation forms yet, one thing that transforms could be used to do is to alter the base game rules in ways that are intuitive and provide significant advantages when used correctly by the player. Some of OoE's transforms showed glimpses of this already, like the cat transform letting you talk with cats and having catwomen fight for you, or the robot transform letting you break spikes and converting physical damage to MP losses while also making most robots ally with you. It's just that there most of them were too underpowered and their actual utility in combat and speed was rather low.

About transformations, i remember that people asked IGA if the game would have any kind of transformation powers. I think this was asked before the kickstarter has ended and he said that it would depend on how much they would net with resources. He explained briefly that transformation is resource-costly (of course) but he personally likes it so, if he sees a "room" for it, he would like to add it. Now, about how transformations would work in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, i personally like the Order of Ecclesia approach, with some of my own ideas: 1) HOW TO OBTAIN TRANSFORMATION POWERS
Shards, of course, that is a given. Considering the Trigger shard is something more instant (like the name implies), the Directional Shard is built around a more gameplay mechanic and gimmick, the Enchant Shard is just a glorified type of equipment and the Familiar Shard is focused on summoning Familiars (captain obvious), i think they could be reserved for Effective Shards, that we don't know how they will work yet. I'm guessing they will be somekind of switch power, like Guardian Souls from the Sorrow series (where you turn on and turn off, like barriers, shields and boosts). So, i think that transformation shards could be at Effective Shard type, randomly dropped from some enemies. 2) HOW THEY WOULD WORK
When you activate a Transformation Shard, Miriam would transform and all her controls would change accordingly, something like Order of Ecclesia. As a example, let's imagine Vepar's Shard is actually a Effective Shard with transformation effect (I would love to see that) called "Vepar Transformation", with the description "transforms into Vepar, the sea monster". So, when you use it, Miriam transforms into a smaller version of Vepar, with a eel-like tail, boucing breasts and greenish color. As Vepar, Miriam would be strong against water-based attacks and weak against fire-based attacks and would fight like this (consider Xbox controller) X: Tentacle attack. Y: Throws a water spray. RT + Right Analog Stick: Attack with a water ray that can be directionally controlled. Effective Control (we don't know yet what it is): turns back. So, when transformed, your weapon is sealed, your armor effects (like resistances) are nulified (but bonuses remains) and all your shards changes to the attacks / gimmicks of the transformation you are using at the moment. By leveling the shard (getting more of the same type / forging / who knows how) your form would evolve, maybe change it's look and increase it's powers. That's how i think transformation shards could work. That's all folks!

I still prefer SOTN's transformations because they felt more substantial for me. Maybe it's because it's not associated with any gameplay gimmick? Like, it was it's own thing in entirely, it's own system. You didn't rely on getting a soul that you had to equip. It was it's own button on your controller. It felt more substantial because of it. I do have a feeling if they're in the game it'll be done like Order, because it does seem like the more resource friendly route, the less expensive route.

I don't care if it's too late to dicuss either. It's for fun and I'm also bored. I liked the bat and wolf from sotn. The bat was more fun and useful. The wolf was cool, but almost useless compared to the bat.
For miriam, a cat transformation would be cool. A simple house cat would be cute as hell. She could be brightly colored like the wolf was. Maybe purple and/or blue. Abilities like wall climbing or wall jumping could have more potential for use than what the wolf had. Running and an attack abilitity would still be welcome.
A more powerful cat in the feline family could also be used. Anything from a lynx to a lion, but give me an adorable tabby or calico any day. There just aren't enough cats in games.

Yeah the bat was definitely more useful. However, when you get that lightning run from the wolf, it became such a cool form to me.
I like your cat idea

I like the idea of a changing into a smaller cat that could potentially fit into places that you normally would not be able to. For whatever reason the thought of a calico cat that shared some of Miriam's crystal designs popped into my head when thinking on this.

A serpent. I love snakes and I think the concept of transforming into one has a multitude of advantages.
Preferably, the snake I have in mind would be a supernatural fusion between five types...
Anaconda - For its sheer crushing strength.
Black Mamba - The athleticism and slithering speed.
Death Adder - Apparently has a blindingly fast strike.
Rattlesnake - Love the threatening noise a rattle makes.
Spitting Cobra - Spraying disgusting venom at a distance is kinda cool eh?
Of course, having the crystal curse could mean that the powers of this snake may be improved or upgraded.

I think that the ideal thing would be a transformation system halfway between SotN and OoE: forms useful to overcome certain obstacles (either to continue in the game or to reach certain secrets), but not limited to that. SotN's transformations hadn't a real purpose in battle. OoE were more battle oriented, and that is what I like, but they almost never were an optimal option. In short, I'd like some forms that allow me to explore, while being efficient in battle if I choose to use them. They should feel badass, and less gimmicky.
