How do each of the previous Castlevania games compare to Hollow Knight?
I am playing Hollow Knight GOG version and I die a lot.
I have never played a single Castlevania game ever in my life before.
Is Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night expected to be more difficult than Hollow Knight?
I also dislike the map system in Hollow Knight.
In Hollow Knight, you must find a map vendor to buy a map of the new area off of him.
However, the map vendor is located deep inside the new area (sometimes right before you fight the boss of this new area), so most of the time, when you are entering a new area, you must navigate the entire new area with no map at all.
This is incredibly frustrating.
Can anyone comment whether or not previous Castlevania titles' map systems are like this?
If previous Castlevania titles' map systems are like this, then I may not back B: RotN via the PayPal Slacker Backer campaign.
I plan to hold off on backing B: RotN until an NS physical port is announced.

I can't speak for Hollow Knight, but Bloodstained will be similar to Symphony of the Night in difficulty. Many gets believe SotN is too easy, but it's accessible to more people.

Regarding the map system of bloodstained. It should be a lot like the other Castlevania games that Igarashi led. Specifically each section of a room will be one square tile to scale with the actual environment. This will be filled in as the player explores. Doors and rooms of significance will be marked. This may have been displayed in the demo but I'm not sure.

I seem to remember this being in some of the demos posted to YouTube which did in fact follow other Castlevania games as far as the automatic mapping went.
I'm guessing there will be a good chance you'll be able to purchase a partial map at some point in the game. The map(s) will likely contain mostly areas that you are required to go to, but not secret areas. If I remember correctly the partial maps sold in portrait of ruin basically showed the way you needed to go to progress the game more than anything. I would think something similar would be done for Bloodstained.
