Dates.. Ingame dates (or a way to just toggle the clock on your console / PC to gain access to it!)
All of them can be toggled on/off in the settings during the event, and off + locked when the event is finished. Perhaps a countdown until the next event.
Theme: Iga (his birthday) Duration: 2 days (March) Changes: No cost to use any type of alchemy. The hidden boss of Iga himself will (when defeated) throw confetti and 100% chance of a frosted cake drop from him, (which you can take and eat to gain full health later on). Enemies burst in confetti as well.
Theme: Summertime Duration: 4 days (June) Changes: All night-areas are now bright day, some enemies explodes into colored pebbles of sparkling unicorn dust. You can also toggle on/off if you want to use a big rose as a weapon if you are using a sword, no stats changed, just a skin.
Theme: Spook (during celebration of the dead) Duration: 4 days (September) Changes: Some enemies are 10% faster and have 10-20% more health/armor. The moon, water and details are colored in bloodred. Ghostnoises can be heard at random and all the villagers (if there are any npc) are skeletons (friendly ones).
Theme: Winter (during the holidays around the world) Duration: 4 days (December) Changes: Miriam headpiece is a christmas hat, some areas have falling snow in the background. If there are special rooms for you to access savepoints or teleportation, these rooms could have a christmas-feel to it also, with ornaments. Familiars gets some voice lines about the holiday spirit too.
Best of all: All of these can be patched later on, making them better. Other versions of events could happen too.
Ideas from a combination of Overwatch events and this forum!

I think it'd be nice to see events during the solstices and equinoxes. Would work well with the Alchemy theme.

The problem is that any modifications made to the game experience should not get in the way of completing/100%'ing the game. I would honestly just keep it to small visual gags.

I wouldn't want anything that would affect the game play in any way. I always find it annoying when games required it to be a specific time of day IRL for an event to happen or to gain an advantage let alone stuff like that happening on a specific day/date. Visual Easter eggs based on date or time could be interesting, but I'd put that really low on the list of things I'd want included in Bloodstained.

Decorative and visual effects to celebrate was the main idea here. But I understand. Gain something during a limited time that easily can be missed aren't fun.
