If I remember correctly, the Japanese versions of Castlevania had more uncut artwork in them than the US versions, because the Japanese games had things like boobs on some of the statues and other things that weren't in the US versions (not sure about European versions).
I got 2 physical copies coming. My main will be the PS4 version that I play the most, but I also got the XB1 Japanese version for collectors purposes (since the backer versions of these may be the rarest) and for the chance that the Japanese version would have the extra art stuff that other country's versions might not have.
What are your thoughts on this?
EDIT: Another example of what I'm talking about is how Sake from the Japanese Castlevania SOTN was replaced with Green Tea in the US version. Apparently somebody, somewhere didn't want Alucard drinking alcohol in America. lol

I see no reason this would happen. The game might primarily be created in Japan, but the goodies are handled internationally.

I just wonder if there will have different ratings in different countries.

Censorship sucks, especially over something petty like in Tokyo Mirage Sessions. But, I don't really think such censorship will happen to Bloodstained. If something was gonna be censored it would probably be one of the enemies or one of Miriam's costumes. But, Iga did say this game was made for the Japanese audience so...we'll see.

Where did he say the game is made for Japanese audiences? All I remember reading is that he said he wouldnt sacrifice Japanese design methodologies for the sake of western views. ...maybe I'm just nitpicking. Anyway yeah I doubt there would be any region specific censoring, especially if the game is to have a staggered release. It woukd mean theyd need to maintain multiple builds for each update.

Well, he said: "While it's true that we raised the funds for Bloodstained from overseas sources primarily, I hope people understand that the content is not particularly aimed at foreigners; we are making the game that we, as Japanese, would like to make." Perhaps I worded that incorrectly maybe "aimed at a Japanese audience" was a better statement. You can kinda assume he was talking about aiming it at a Japanese Audience. I don't really think either of us is mistaken since it seems to be that Iga is gonna do what he pleases regardless of western views.

I want 0 censorship and I don't care that this game is rated M for it. I want all versions to be equally uncensored and if this gets toned down then the next time they won't have my support and I'm very serious about this.

Censorship nowadays is mostly done by nintendo for their 1st/2nd party games. If anything, you would have to worry about the japanese versions being censored for things like nudity and violence since nudity isn't really that big a deal no more (at least when it comes to M rated games) in the west and violence/gore was never that much a problem post nintendo domination with the NES/SNES eras. The japanese got more strict over the years when it comes to certain things actually. *Off the top of my head, their versions of god of war was always censored, along with games like GTA5, the last of us, the order 1886, witcher 3, and the dragon age series for example*.
Even japanese made games is sometimes censored for their own country yet can be released uncensored in north america or the rest of the world. Resident evil/biohazard has always been one of these type of series...before they started making the violence even across all versions, the older releases used to always have those extra gory deaths/animations and whatnot in the NA releases while theirs would have things like say, censored decapitations and whatnot.

Companies like Nippon Ichi Software America and Idea Factory International have been known to censor/change their versions of games. I've read about Square-Enix doing it lately as well. It's completely stupid, and I don't care how "minor" it is. If it is indeed so minor, then why is there even a need to censor it at all? There is no legitimate reason to censor games. It's 2016. If a game is able to be released in Japan and the country does not destroy itself because of the game, then I see no reason why it can't be released in the same state outside of Japan. That being said, I don't see anything like this happening with Bloodstained. I trust that IGA is just concerned with making a good game, and not with the opinions of people that probably wouldn't buy the game anyway. If the game is good, the sales will be there.

Most self-censorship is done to dodge the rating system, not because the studios themselves want to censor their games.

That's probably true, but I don't think that makes it any better to most people. It's not like M rated games have trouble selling.

That's probably true, but I don't think that makes it any better to most people. It's not like M rated games have trouble selling. It's not that simple. M rated games are the mainstream since most gamers are in the 20-30 age range. This means that publishers are cutting content to dodge the AO rating, not the M rating. Take crazy Australia, for example. Atelier Rorona Plus got an R18+ rating in Australia (ESRB gave it a T) because of "high impact sexual violence", whatever that means. Rating boards are not always filled with level-headed, objective individuals.

I don't th ink much concern has to go into the rating, at least not as much, considering half of the consumers of the product have already bought it.

This is a good point with a large majority of backers just saying we want iga's vision there probably won't be much filtering between his brain and the final product.
Edit: Except on the wii u version, I fully expect some changes on that one because reasons. Not want, just expect.

Nintendo doesn't mess with third party games only ones they publish or make themselves. There will be no edits or changes on the Wii U version because its being published by deep silver.
