This is inspired by Seama as you're fighting a whole bunch of 'em on the ship. Perhaps we can have a few subtle touches on different mobs. Have some extra layers of dark gray or red over the mesh to create subtle differences among the different mobs of the same type. A small touch; and I doubt that it's too terribly worth it; but would be a subtle touch and subtle nod to creativity. If it was possible to have this type of variety as a quick overlay on meshes; it'd be even cooler as it'd be applicable on the fly and the payoff would be worth it and immediate. Imagine spinda from pokemon.

I once found a spinda with but a single spot on his forehead.
you betta believe I caught dat poke. But I think it's a good idea, I mean it's kinda like the mermen in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, there are like 3 different types of them. :p I don't think it would be outta character for IGA.

Palette swaps done very sparingly can work. It's not a good idea if there will be an area consisting of enemies that are palette swaps of all enemies of another area. Creative department gotta be creative.
Something like an "Evolved Morte" (who will carry a shard) that Miriam can encounter towards the end of the main game sounds really good to me. Or, if it's a given that Bloodstained will have the sine wave medusa heads back along with the annoying birds, there should be a "Medusa Head / Bird hybrid" that flies in the well-addressed NES Castlevania / Ninja Gaiden bird patterns, but can also temporarily turn Miriam to stone when hit.

Oh, no palette swaps here, just different overlays on the same palette (same seama, same species, slightly different mottling)

I remember Aria of Sorrow had the zombies in the first corridor, some of them had heads drooping forwards, and others leaning backwards. Something like that?

In Dawn of sorrow there were 2 different types of Buers. Red ones and a different blue variety, if that's what you're referring to. :D

Morte cannons already have small cosmetic differences.
