This Article with IGA on 4gamer.net is in Japanese, but our friend at shmuplations.com translated a bit for us. The bit in red says, "While it's true that we raised the funds for Bloodstained from overseas sources primarily, I hope people understand that the content is not particularly aimed at foreigners; we are making the game that we, as Japanese, would like to make." Thanks blackoak for the translation.

"While it's true that we raised the funds for Bloodstained from overseas sources primarily, I hope people understand that the content is not particularly aimed at foreigners; we are making the game that we, as Japanese, would like to make." I'd just like to comment as a "foreigner" that this is very much a GOOD thing. Devil May Cry was so good and popular world-wide because of how "Japanese" it was. Same with its spiritual successor, Bayonetta. Same with Castlevania. Same with ITS spiritual successor, Bloodstained.

I can respect that. It is for the best that he just designs he wants without paying too much attention to the "foreigners." It will probably be better in the end.

Thank God he feels like that, I feel more relieved now. For some reason japanese devolpers in general tend to forget why their fans like their games. We don't want them "westernized", we like them exactly because they are different.

To me this was obvious of course but am glad he's coming clean; letting newer fans or people not too familiar with IGAVania Castlevania games what they're getting into.

The reason why developers want to appeal to western audiences at the moment is because Japanese console sales are kind of tanking, and since the US is a gigantic country it makes sense to make up for lost revenue there. Sales in the US have traditionally always been higher, even for weird stuff you'd think is niche. Persona and Fire Emblem were really obscure in the past and now they're basically mainstream after the advent of P4 and Awakening.
I appreciate the weird Japanese flair of Castlevania though, and I'm glad that it's staying for Bloodstained.

ayyyy waifus!
Thank goodness for games like those. It helps that nowadays culturally, it's more or less mainstream to want to be niche. It may or may not be cool to note that you claimed your waifu on an Inside the Web forum hosted on geocities in 2001 before she was popular, though. We're not quite there...yet.
