GUYS. Mike, why didn't you link to her work? Dude. I was listening to the podcast thinking, oh, sounds like she was doing monster designs for mobage/Puzzles & Dragons type stuff, that's kinda neat I guess, let's see if I can turn up something she's done and WOW. vusc.deviantart.com/It sounds like Mana has been to cons, too, so maybe some of us have seen her! I haven't, at the east coast stuff I've been to...I would have bought prints of a few of these. And I'm still going to somehow or another lol. It's kind of a shame she won't be doing any art for Bloodstained, but her being there as an advisor/able to give input on the designs could be pretty significant. I can kind of see the Ayami Kojima, and kind of not. I don't think it would be my first thought when looking at these, but looking for that inspiration specifically I can see it there.

Mana's works are definitly worthy to check out. There is definitly a Kojima-san influence but who can stay untouched by her art fantastic art anyway ? I really felt in love with Stella. : vusc.deviantart.com/art/Stella-547963781Amazing piece of art, and the rest is as good. It's always a pleasure to welcome artists in the community. Thanks for the link purifyweirdsoul !

purifyweirdshard Vusc requested we not focus on her art just yet. Of course I was going nuts for it and so was my wife when we looked over Vucs' art. When I get the money I want to buy her Art Book. I will let Mana explain about why we didn't link the art, but notice that the podcast doesn't give a last name and doesn't call her by Vusc. The only way anyone would have known they were the same person was Googling her full name revealed in the update or doing some research on her forum profile user name and email address. Personally, I hope we can reap the benefits of having such a talented artist as our CM. I designed the Cursed theme and I'm just a hack. Imagine what we could do if we can convince Vusc to make a theme?!

That makes sense. Her position is about communication, not art, so it kind of clouds the air and perhaps takes some focus away from Bloodstained.
But yeah. Unavoidable eventually, for sure. D:

We have all the informations thanks to you after all ! That's something that has to be said at least once. I understand about Vusc and her art anyway. Surely, it is a great pleasure to see our Community Manager knows what art is all about.

Either way, yeah I was pretty blown away.

Wow... she is SO talented. I'm now hoping she'll do at least something art related for the game in the future in addition to her community roles. It would be such a crying shame to have this kind of talent on board and not use it.

^ Most-liked post on the forum? I couldn't tell if I had already liked it or not so I liked it again lol. Anyways, I'm sure it will Dragoons/lancers are among my favorite FF classes (Kain was the coolest guy ever when I was a kid), but the Dizzy definitely sold me. I've been playing Guilty Gear competitively over 11 years now. I got an awesome Xrd statue for Ky recently who is my character, and Dizzy is now his wife D: A man of such stature marrying a 3-year-old! Good(?) thing she's a gear. Just freeze her when necessary.

So as I was paying for my donuts, I saw "illfigment.com" and thought huh, wonder what that is? www.illfigment.com/illust.htmlI think I like the Ragna Break stuff the best! I don't think whatever she did for Wizardry is on here...and I'm curious who Mana drew for Lord of Vermillion? That game has a lot of crossover with various franchises. God. The world is not fair for artists. How can people be this good and not be rich? It's just the same with music. It's almost like a lottery if you're found and recognized for what you do, and that's even after working so long for it. ...I hope she eats her fair share of the donuts. edit: I'm kind of mad about this right now >_< edit2: But wait...maybe IGA knew that and wanted to hire her partly for this reason, for some justice? Huh...dude...hm. Of course, it was her friend who connected her to him, but still. He could have thought something similar.

Huh...dude...hm. Of course, it was her friend who connected her to him, but still. He could have thought something similar. Haha you found my website. I'm not allowed to post couple of the works For Lord of Vermilion, I drew two cards - Fuma Kotaro (風磨小太郎) and Seldid (sp? セルディッド). Both of them are LoV's original characters. Art and music is really subjective and takes a lot of time to make. The hard reality is that it's too costly to hire an "artist." Lets say a company pays their employees $4k per month to work 5 days a week. An artist might take up to 5 days to complete a full drawn piece. That means the company would have to pay that person $1k to make one drawing ($200 per day). To a company it's much cheaper to pay a freelance artist $600 for a similar piece. This is just an example and may only be a thing in Japan. What a Japanese game company wants from an artist is someone who is willing to adjust their style to their liking, as well as someone who can draw many different things (people, landscapes, animals, buildings, etc.) instead of someone who can draw one thing amazingly. It may take an artist up to 3 years for a director/producer to let them do the concept art for a new game (building trust and communication skills). You'd be surprised how many talented freaks artists there are who can both draw and have other skills like make 3D models or code. So lets say if IGA wanted to hire an artist, loads of artists who specialize in gothic style will apply to his place. He wouldn't want that, he wants someone who can draw variety. When I was eating dinner with him during PAX, he asked me "Hey, can you draw a character that has a similar vibe to Pikachu?" and I was like.....Wha...? But he was just testing me (completely unrelated to Bloodstained). In my case, IGA simply didn't need to hire an artist. These are probably the reasons why I was hired: - Speak and understand both Japanese & English - Willing to move to another country. - Familiar with his games and games in general - Draw (It's a plus) - Generally not a terrible person (I hope) PS. I'm excited for the donuts.

Wow, huh. That all makes sense. First, let me apologize, you'll have to not only deal with difficult people, but fans like me too apparently lol. I get you though, yeah, that's just how things are. A lot of my frustration on this topic stems from somewhere else actually, a previously pretty close friend of mine is an artist. She had a really neat original project, a PG-13 webcomic she went on to print and sell online/at cons. She had other jobs, too, of course, and sold fan art merchandise along with the other stuff, but it was decently popular for what it was and I supported her a good bit. Well, as years went on, her update schedule got tough, the weight of a successful Kickstarter kind of crushed her with unforseen printing and shipping issues, she wasn't scraping together enough from her regular jobs, her boyfriend could only help so much...so things started to give. Now, she gets by from doing adult comics on a private subscription site and similar side projects. The original stuff has been on hold for years. I'm a Christian guy, she's agnostic. It doesn't bother her all that much morally to have to do these things, but to me...I would sooner pay her out of pocket to just not have to do that. We're still good friends, but live very far apart and don't talk but like once a year or something. The topic rarely comes up, if at all. The distance and no con overlap is the main reason for the silence, but I just hate how it all turned out. I would help man her table at cons and the stuff would be right there. What can I do? I want her to thrive artistically, but the world is the way it is. ...so anyway, I'm an idealist and a crazy fan and went TMI. =/ But that probably explains more of my thoughts earlier. And REGARDLESS, I'm just quite glad you're here and got the job! edit: didn't want the yellow graphical smileys lol

Oh I can totally understand where she's coming from D:. My friends also work on adult comics and other odd jobs to get by. I just stayed at my family's house and saved up doing couple of freelance jobs.
I still have idealistic thoughts even though I know that realistically it's not possible haha. Why can't we draw what we like and make decent living! That kind of stuff. It's a hit or miss just as you mentioned.

Yeah, it's a problem for a lot of creative people. I hear published authors labor under these conditions too--if you want to write something new or something important to you personally, your publisher may ask you to keep writing established stuff you aren't as interested in or doesn't mean as much to you, because appealing to the mass market is the most important thing. I understand their reasoning, of course, but it's still tough :/

Interesting informations ! It's a world that is totally unknown to me and it's cool to see clearer on how it works actually.
Gorgeous illustrations by the way ! I really wonder how much efforts and time it has required.

To be an illustrator you really have to love what you do, as the pay tends to be shit, finding a steady job is incredibly hard and you get treated like dirt by the employers.
A lot of illustrators put all their chips on making it big and focus only on their art. Unfortunately, the majority ends up having to either take a minimum wage job to support their desired career or end up falling in the "adult" sector. The latter scenario seems to be the more likely outcome nowadays as a porn artist earns 4 times the amount a "normal" artist does in Japan (on average). Meanwhile, illustrators outside of Japan are resorting to commissions and things like Patreon(spelling?). I can only imagine how devastated some of the artists are when they have to resort to these kinds of methods to survive... I mean, you live in hope of becoming a famous illustrator and end up making masturbation aids. Perverted artists who actually want to draw that stuff are not taken into consideration here, of course.
That little digression aside, you have some lovely work there Mana Manager. I hope to see more art from you soon!

Hey, look what I got! It actually arrived a while ago. Pretty good value I think, wasn't even $20 shipped from Japan. I'm not saying you should buy Mana's art book...but maybe you should buy Mana's art book. D: haha if you're interested, alice-books.com/item/show/4918-1(there's an English button near the top right)
