So, the stance thread popping up again made me recall the animation test video, where Natsume-san asked IGA "What is Miriam's iconic stance?", to which he replied "I don't know!"
I think they may have this down by now, and the pose from the shader shots may be "it", but how would you like her to:
- Stand at neutral, mainly, but also - Crouch - Idle after several seconds - Ascend and descend in jumps - The "up" pose (assuming there is one) - Sitting - Miscellaneous other poses you may have input on or deem important
Some key words I imagine in my mind for how she carries herself and feels overall in-game would be light, swift, almost wispy and a definite degree of femininity, but also palpable determination. Alucard isn't a far off match, honestly... *high fives castledan*
I think the current neutral stance is okay, if a bit rigid? I think I see the point of having her arms spread apart like that. It reminds me of Alucard's idle stance. If she had just been running/fighting, I don't imagine she would stand as much like that.
Ideas for idle animations: - Holding her chest and looking down as the crystalization there glows a bit. This could be more noticeable in darker areas - Movements natural to the context of where she is - looking back and forth in dark corridors, warming herself in the cold, brushing herself off in an outdoor/dusty area. This sort of thing is fluff, for sure, but definitely adds character and charm to the experience - something we commonly receive from these games.

Well, that topic is discussing the possibility of adding varying animations for how she uses weapons, swinging them at different angles, dual wielding and all that sort of thing - stuff that we have no idea will be in the game. This topic I've made is more concerning the "look" and iconic style of how her character model is posed to convey game feel and personality traits to the player.
The other topic is more of a "cool if they did this with weapons" thread versus this one being "how should she look", basically. The word stance being in the title might confuse the issue a bit, but that's the word the team used...could change that.

Cute idle anims that randomly pop up in response to the environment would be really neat, like shivering and rubbing her hands against her arms or blowing into them, or fanning herself in a hot area, maybe even coughing and patting her clothes off in dusty or sandy areas, stuff like that

Crocodile, those are definitely some great poses. 8)
I also agree 100% with purifyweirdsoul, idle animations can really give the game charm. Perhaps there could be a few for status ailments--holding an arm if she's at low health, or holding her tummy if she's poisoned, and then maybe some for status buffs, like standing particularly tall for a defense buff, flexing her arms for a strength buff, and so on. XD

what about a different idle stance with different weapons.... just once and awhile, she plays with her weapon... if it's a special weapon like an ice or fire weapon she can look at the flames or ice dance on the weapon. or if the weapon has a spirit inside of it she can pull out the weapon and let the spirit out for a bit... to play?
whatever they do, I just think it would be cool if there are weapon specific idle animation.

Charlotte's "Well, not bad eh?"pose in Portrait of Ruin was a curious reason to press UP during the game if you got bored of smashing skeletons. It'd be nice if Miriam could strike a pose in similar fashion but with a bit more tease and a big weapon. Or am I just being smutty?

Clever in a few ways. Weapon equip based idle animations would be interesting as well. Just do it by type. Whip miriam with say fill health left idle practices random whip strikes. Sword of whatever type does something akin to bits type, rapier pokes, sabre draw cuts etc just in motion. For fun make them have actual hit boxes that do damage or interact with objects.

Idle animation:
Taking a note from Earthworm Jim 1-2, Jim's idle bounces between a weapon, weapon juggling and other comical animations. There were quite a few... They took time to produce his character in such a way to offer him animations the player only watches.
Miriam could have the same. Either comical or not. But it would be nice for a few animations to cycle. Weapon based, Crystal based, generic based (hair flip, skirt reposition, etc). And just for the hell of it, she should do the metal Windmill.

Heh, don't forget the "standing on a ledge teetering" animation.
One of my favorite idles is the humming dance Marina does in Mischief Makers. Not sure anything like that would fit Miriam though, unless they have the time to do per-weapon class idles and there was an instrument set.

That's exactly what I was saying in my last paragraph there. I remember this as far back as the SNES Star Wars games where Luke would warm himself up on Hoth. I wouldn't want to see anything so comical myself, guys...I see this character as mostly serious, if a tiny bit ditzy perhaps? Teetering on an edge I think would be in-character enough.

Funny you bring that up, actually. Did you guys ever hold the input of the diagonal slash after he does it? Alucard swings again without the weapon in his hand. I always wondered what that was about.

Hey, perfect setup for doing the metal windmill animation. If the area you are in happens to have an electric guitar heavy soundtrack then if Miriam is idle during a 'solo'esque part of the sound track she starts swinging her hair around and holding up horns using here hands.

I think they should keep it as it is. If idle animations bother someone, well, they only happen because you're idle. Say to Miriam, "no slouching!".
Anyway, I was about to bring up this topic again myself, but about something different - we still don't have the "iconic pose" of holding "up" yet. This was briefly touched on a long time ago during the Kickstarter gameplay test video I believe, someone asked IGA "what's her iconic pose?" and IGA said "I don't know!" hahaha. I think it would be good for her to have an "up", since every character Alucard and on has had one.
