Ok there will most likely be many different weapons in this game... now will Miriam change her stance when she wields a different weapon? Like, will she swing her broad sword the same way she swings her katana? and even if the swings are different (many of the castlevanias had different swings) how will she stand afterward?
Will her weapons determine her stance? eg holding a rapier vs holding a short sword... the two stances are different right? but what about dual wielding, will she use a Parrying dagger stance with a sword in one hand and a dagger in the other? or dual whips... people need to stand a specific way to wield them right?
anyway just want to know your thoughts.
Note: Oh and just to make it clear... I understand that they cannot program a style for EVERY weapon... voting "yes" does not mean this is what you want. it just means you what a stance for weapons that call for them. not for every sword, dagger and blade (that would be asking too much) but for specific weapons and weapon combinations. the same way a person will changes the way they stand if they have a sword and shield vs. if they just have a sword.
voting "a few" means you want her have special stance for a few weapons like katanas, short swords, rapiers and great swords... and that's it. the same way that most castlevanias have different attack patterns for some weapons (eg short swords: swing fast, katanas: quick and from the scabbard, great swords: swing over head)

I would like to see different stances for every type of weapon, that would be something nice to watch and would make miriam to feel more alive and badass. I love the little details in the Igavania series and this would be one of those.

It would be unreasonable for every weapon to have a unique stance but certain weapons having stances(like nunchecks as JeffCross said) would be be pretty cool.

Dvv thanks for the vote and post... but remember what " a few different stances might be cool" means. if you read the first post "a few" means just for swords...

Maybe have it to where only special weapons are given these stance changes. Like named weapons that you get from bosses or something.

I like the idea but what about the weapons you craft? wouldn't it be cool to have these stances with your weapons as well?...
I know it's more programming and it may take more time but since Iga and his team are using 3d models it would be easier to put in different stances with different weapons (again not each and every weapon that would be too demanding) but programming a basic stance for different weapons, and certain special weapons.
let's see... these would be the stances:
Swords: Katanas Great swords Rapiers
Special: Katars (or not but fist weapons should have their own stance) Nunchuks Guns (like flint locks maybe the could shoot alchemy energy) Spears (pole arm, bo-staff)
Dual: Dual katanas (or maybe dual swords in general) parring dagger (when a sword and a dagger are paired)
That's all I can think of. if they tie those stances with those weapons I think I would be happy.
can anyone think of anymore?

Yeah but I don't want the scythe to be in the Axe category... it should have it's own category. but yeah a boss version of each weapon... that would be awesome XD

I would hope at least that whips don't have a sword swing animation. I'd like for her to swing that in the classic motion, personally.
Anything else would be great if they have time for it. I recall we discussed something similar earlier and I brought up how I'd like different animation for the larger swords than what is usually there (the wood chopping overhead swing).

Do you mean like you can whip in all eight directions like super Castlevania because if that is what you want I am with you there.

I'm really hoping there are different stances for each category of weapon. When I think of the starting point of each basic attack animation for each type of weapon category it seems 'logical' (it's only a game I know but...) to me in that you would be holding a whip or a sword in a completely different stance to begin an attack from.

Well with 3D models, this shouldn't be too much attention to detail. I'd love to find as many stances as possible.

maybe if you have 2 different spells in each hand you changed stance to combine them into a more powerful spell?

Basically, I suggest :
• Peaceful stance : Get activated when allied PNJ are nearby and / or Miriam stands in a peaceful area (no monsters) // weapons visible but on Miriam's belt / back. • Neutral stance or Exploration stance : The default stance Miriam uses to explore the Castle or when she is doing nothing (outside a peaceful area) // weapons on hands but keep neutral look / attitude. • Hostile stance : Activates when monsters are nearby and / or hostile area (damaging environment like toxic plants or lava, boss in sight...) // Fighting attitude. • Cheerful stance : After defeating boss, rescuing an ally, fulfilling an important objective (finding the final key, a secret potion of power...) // I hesitate between weapons on belt and no weapons displayed. • Rest stance : When Miriam is at her personnal room and / or in the merchant room (no weapon displayed).
+ several emotes maybe ? Laugh, cry, dance, throw a wine glass... And a unique stance for each type of weapon (sword, rapier, katana, whip, mace...)
edit : I misunderstood the subject but still keeping my ideas here, if never needed...

I said this in the weapon suggestions thread:
Jun 15, 2015 7:00:33 GMT 1 ChucklesTheJester said: I really hope all the different weapon types have an entirely unique and specific hitboxes. The different kinds of swords, at least. For example, if broadswords had a quick overhead attack arc close to the body, similar to the rod and mace-type weapons in Symphony of the Night, with rapier's quick, long-reaching straight stab with a narrow hitbox, and katana's "under-hand" strike, Dawn of Sorrow style. A "straight slash" kind of weapon would just be pretty much redundant with the rapier's stab so it could be safely left out. Or reserved for short swords. Are they really confirmed? I didn't see anything about any "short swords" being confirmed in any official material.
Is THIS what you mean by stances? If so, then yeah, I completely agree.

I forgot who came up with the suggestion (guess it was you, so thank you). but I want more than just hit boxes, I want her (and all the characters) to move differently with different types of weapons, from her being battle ready, standing to walking and fighting... and maybe a few surprising dual wielding stances (not many) enough for people to look for them by trying out different weapon combinations.
