Its going to be m cause the reviewers are always a bunch of prudes with trees up their asses, nothing but free time and an axe to grind against anything that could be misconstrued as fun
I just hope they dont force Iga to censor his art, but at the same time i dont think it really matters since its a digital release and they cant hold it hostage bearly as easily as a physical release

The reviewers have a set criteria by which they rate the games. I certainly wouldn't call them what you just did, seems unnecessary. Parents have a right to know what is in the games they are buying for their kids and I find the esrb descriptions to be well done for the most part. I certainly don't have any kids but I like to read their descriptions to get a feel for why a game got the rating it did and then decide whether or not I want it. I am sure any parent who thought their kid was smart enough to understand an M rated game would still buy it for them. An M rating doesn't have anything to do with fun, it just informs purchasers of the content.
I don't think Iga will need to censor anything anyway, he isn't NIS so I doubt he wants to add in a scene where we bathe children for a stat bonus.

Worth noting that the ESRB has been getting progressively more strict as the years have gone by. I wouldn't be surprised if Bloodstained ends up in the 'Rated M, but would have been a T had it been released 8 years earlier' boat. I'm predicting T or M. I'll actually be a bit displeased if the game has AO level content. However, someone refresh my memory as to what graphical style Bloodstained is using, because I know the ESRB tends to be quicker to give 3-D imagery a higher rating on account of being more 'realistic'. (I think I heard that it was 2.5D but I won't swear to it. Bloodstained will make use of fully 3D models and background while movement directions being locked on 2D as i understand, making use of Unreal Engine 4. I am not sure if the background will be 3D modeled in details or just flat layers of textures to look more like 2D. And yes most likely it will be rated T with a significant chance of being M considering the last games style, but certainly it won't be AO which requires extreme scenes that i can't even imagine fitting on the game universe, Iga doesn't go that deep on the dark-side themes. |

Sometimes it seems like the ESRB are rediculously prudish, but sometimes they are surprisingly not so... They are fertain inconsistant I find.
For example, take a look at neptunia action U. Game features girls running sround in skin thight outfits that get torn to pieces.. And its not even a T.. But an E! Nuff said.

Given most (all?) of the Igavanias hit a T rating, I'd expect this game to do the same. If the writing is actually going to take advantage of a higher rating (like say the Witcher) for the sake of a quality narrative I wouldn't be horribly opposed I guess but I don't want a M rating to just be an excuse for extra tits, blood, gore, "edge" that don't increase the quality or the narrative. IGA has always had a good handle on horror without crossing unneeded boundaries, I'm expecting the same here. I agree with this myself. I can do without the game getting a M rating just for the sole purpose to seem more "edgy". Knowing IGA it would probably be T rated, but if he includes some mature elements and whatnot beyond just over the top gore, boobs and what have you then a M rating would be no problem. |

It's probably going to have at least partial dependence on the graphical detail of the gore and (potential) partial nudity (I'm guessing on the second part since partial nudity abounds in Castlevania).
I'm personally prepared for it to get an "M" slapped onto it, but it could be a "T", considering other Igavania games got that. It's really hard to say since I think the ESRB can be kind of inconsistent on what they feel is or isn't worth a bump in the age rating.
I personally don't care what rating it actually ends up as, but T does tend to be more marketable since it's open to a wider audience. Igavania games don't tend to ride on being edgy for the sake of attracting players, so I can see the devs trying to court a T if they go for something specific.

I picked M so that if Iga wants to go all out with the graphic imagery and such, he can do so. I may be a bit squeamish, but let's see what happens when he holds nothing back for his new game.
That's if it isn't T like the other times.

I think Iga should make a kickass game and no matter the rating even if it's E (doubtful though) as long as he put's everything he wants to in this game I will be happy... but I still think it will be rated T.
it seems to me that Iga like atmosphere over gore.. so yeah still T

I like atmospheric over gore too, but it's nice having 'that one area' with lots of it. kinda like that area in curse of darkness with that legion boss. Plus EROTIC VIOLENCE (I'm sorry, but that just never gets old for me, silliest expression ever lol).

Considering every 2D Castlevania made by Iga has got only a T rating by the ESRB I somehow doubt he'll activelly try to shoot for an M rating this time. Even with the likes of Legion, Gergoth and Beelzebub the rating can be quite forgiving at times.
Then again Hatred got an AO rating so who knows...

Well to be fair... he was working for Konami and most bigger gaming companies usually force their creators to aim for a E through T rating to be able to sell to as many people as possible (this does not include games specifically aimed at adults). this time around Iga has the chance to do an M rating if he wants... but that is up to him and his team. he might go for a T rating to reach the masses again or he might aim for an M rating just to see if he can do it (but really, I don't know what his reason would be for aiming for an M rating ^^  but whatever his choice I am confident that his fans will love the game. |

My heart is curiously calling for a M but my brain keeps whispering T. Jeez ... I hope that whisper dwindles away!  Even so, IGA has a pretty fine knack of getting the balance and mix of gore, violence and nudity (partial) just right in his Castlevania games. If he does go for a T again , then I do wish he'll refine and nudge his knack just a little bit further onto the thin red line that separates the T from M. |

As JeffCross stated the big companies usually explicit aim for a lower rating so they can sell more, well this probably doesn't affect anything since the children's parents are the ones who buys it and i never met parents who actually care much about ratings except if it AO or the difference is really large compared to the children age. That said there is the possibility Iga somehow limited the last games because of that, still i don't think that's the case. The T rating seems enough to maintain the game needs, however the M rating can contribute for polishment purposes, like player/enemies/boss death animations which could include some nice blood spilling art and body parts mutilation, not to mention dark background details like hanging body parts dripping blood and all these things which makes sense within a dark demonic castle. But since this polishment should require extra art work and animations, not to mention the team doubt on if these strong scenes could cause the dislike on part of fans (we know it won't but...). Anyway the most likely rating still being T (i voted for M but that's only my wish, it's just unlikely). |

It is true some companies try to force lower rating to maximize profits, but I always thought Castlevanias were some of the most daring games in that area. As I said before, the ratings are just really very forgiving to 2D games as seen by SOTN that got a T rating with Beelzebub, Legion and the Succubus in it and the same happened to DOS with Gergoth (I mean, that thing's just a rotten penis with legs!) Having said that the ESRB can be fickle at times. Volgarr the Viking, Dark Souls 2 and Bloodrayne:Betrayal are all rather gory and bloody games and they all got T ratings, but Mark of the Ninja got an M. And let's not forget Hatred, shitty as that game was, it got AO without doing anything GTA hadn't done worse.  |
