Hi, I purchased the cartridge version of Bloodstained for the Switch, not having read any of the reviews because I simply love Metroidvania style games and when I heard the shard collecting was similar to Aria of Sorrow I didn't have to think twice. But, now I have SEVERE buyers remorse. The Switch version lag is so bad it's virtually unplayable, which sucks, because I really am liking the story, the characters and mechanics, but its like moving through syrup. I'm devastated. I looked on-line for a patch of some sort for the Switch just to see if I would need to purchase and download the digital version of this game in order to even get the patch, and the most current version. But the eShop has no patch. Has anyone played the latest digital version of Bloodstained for the Switch is it any better, are there still severe problems? would I just be wasting more money on top of already wasting money for game that is gorgeous and fun but unplayable? -Thanks in advance, sorry for complaining, but I was really looking forward to this game. I just can't bring myself to overlook all the flaws of the Switch port.

There was a patch that improved Switch lag, and there is another to be released at an unannounced time. I personally estimate around the middle of this month for the next Switch patch, but I am not a 505 or ArtPlay employee. I feel very confident in my prediction, however. So there is hope. Thanks for your patience and I hope the next patch gets the game to where you need it to be.

Thanks for the reply, Yea, the game is lovely, for all the players out there not playing on PC, I hope this game get's the attention it deserves. I've been perusing the forums here. It sounds like the developers really jumped the gun on release for this, and with the backlash from a multitude of imperfections it's causing quite simply a dam of other problems including: delayed mode releases, imperfect patch updates etc, etc. I'm glad to read the PC version is doing well, but it's such a let down for players and fans on other systems. And while I understand the argument that a player should just switch (pun intended) over to one of the other platforms in order to play the game. I don't necessarily agree or think it fair as a conscientious consumer to put that responsibility on the patron. Thanks again for the reply though!

That's a terrible argument and not one we would agree with either. All versions should be great. Hopefully we get there.
Experience with the Switch version has been oddly subjective. Around half of players report having no problems at all, with the game running fine, albeit of course not looking not as great as the other versions. There has been quite an effort figuring out why this is, and one theory was that different Switch models handled the game differently. The game was tested on launch Switch models which seem to run the game better than latter model Switch consoles, for some reason, but even that doesn't seem to be proven or completely consistent.
You can see this is most threads about it on the Bloodstained subreddit, and I've heard it from some people I know. "My Switch version ran just fine, 100%'d the game no problem", and then there's guys who report an unplayable state with input lag and constant crashes. Either way, yes - a patch is out for this that improves it, and another is coming - and obviously that kind of performance isn't acceptable, whatever the conditions behind it are.

It would be nice if all versions were great, I hope it can get there as well. For now, tabling this game seems to be the best option until a patch comes out that's worth playing, which is still super disheartening, but patience is a virtue. And I'd rather enjoy something than be frustrated with it. I also headed over to the Kickstarter, just to read the comments and see what people had to say. And wow... The Kickstarter is SUCH a ... Dumpster Fire ... People not receiving their backer's rewards, delayed shipments, and damaged reward goods. Complaints as recent within the past two weeks. I sincerely hope the developers can get their footing underneath all this. What a mess. It would be laughable if it weren't for over 60,000 backers and an excess of $5,000,000 in pledges, now it's just sad. Also, if you're the same Brent Taylor that's also taking time to respond to the disgruntled Kickstarter comments, you're doing a good job at keeping a level head and this fan base afloat. -Cheers, Thanks for responding

That's me, yeah, and it's important to note that when you try to send 50 different things to 100k different people located all around the world in a game development project, it's going to be very complicated and some things are going to go wrong. Nobody is going to go through the trouble of visiting the KS comment section to say "hey there! Just reporting in to say everything is wonderful" because we as humans unfortunately don't do that. If something goes bad, you bet they're showing up. Oftentimes, the good news is that the "bad things" are just misunderstandings and they just didn't know what or where their survey was, didn't know that PC gets their physical copies later, missed an update because not all of us can read or remember a hundred emails, emailed or contacted the wrong people about their question, etc.
The project overall has been successful and delivered on a great majority of what it was supposed to. Yet if even only 1% of people have a problem with the KS, that's still a thousand people, and you bet your butt they're going to tell everyone about it. Just about everyone else got it, played it, and maybe said a thing or two about how they liked it and moved on ;p
edit: Also, it would be great if people used *anything* else besides that for communication. The KS comments are a nebulous void for finding and giving out useful information. I have some great posts buried under an infinite amount of "load more" clicks, nothing is linkable, no moderation, no reporting. It only just got a "reply" function last year iirc. This can lend toward it looking like nothing but a huge pile of hopeless complaints - some of those people have been replied to before, but you'd never be able to know it (including sometimes they themselves not being able to know it, or wanting the appearance that they are not heard) because of how stuff gets buried and lost.

Xbox One and PS4 versions are good, not perfect, but definitely much closer to the PC version than the Switch.
The problem with the Switch is that the hardware is severely underpowered by today's standards and based on what is effectively a tablet chip. ARM architecture is tailored towards energy savings, not performance. It's like playing Doom on the GBA, really. So the devs can only do so much.
Lack of patch on eShop is probably on Nintendo's shoulders, though. Xbox One is fully updated and PS4 is close. No reason for the eShop to lack such a major patch for the game.

Patches don't show up on the Switch eShop if I remember correctly. You have to press + on the game in the main menu to see your current version and look for any updates or patches. The process should be automatic though, so odds are your version is already the latest one. It shouldn't matter if it's physical or digital.

I’m not excusing the subpar state in which the Switch version launched in but anyone who was expecting a 1:1 port to PS4/XB1 (let alone PC) were setting themselves for dissapointment.
I couldn’t my imagine the voices of regret if this game had released on Vita and/or WiiU because the game wasn’t exactly the same as on PS4.

I don't think anyone reasonably expected that - parity performance/graphics wise with PC/XB1/PS4 to Switch. A completely functional and stable product (and looking the best it can), yes.
