Fullmetal Alchemist is as far as I'm concerned the best manga of all times. 100% focused, incredible characters, rich and engaging plot, it's just perfect and the fact that it maintains its quality for so long is astonishing to this day.
Close second is definitely Bakuman. It has a couple moments that feel like filler but it's so incredible, instructive and with unforgettable characters.
There are others too but these are my absolute favorites.

I have many fitting the bill... Berserk, Claymore, Elfen Lied, Full Metal Alchemist, the list is long... If i have to choose 1, though...
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagiari, or "The Rising of the Shield Hero". Don't ask me why, though. Reasons are many.

Monster. Easily. Best manga and it's a pity my buddy didn't bother with it or the equally excellent anime because "he didn't like the art style". I guess people have an aversion to characters with actual noses.  |

I guess people have an aversion to characters with actual noses.
Akihiko Yoshida and Savin Yeatman-Eiffel both immediately come to mind.
