I used the Jinrai technique to get some boss medals. You get them by killing bosses without losing any HP. Other than that they are just cool looking.
It's nice that when you master them you can use on any weapon of the same category. |

PC user here. There are a few techniques that are decent for mobility. In general, though?
They cost too much MP, aren't much better than regular attacks for damage, the inputs are too precise, and they can be interrupted. So no, I don't use techniques. Not sure if I'll ever get the achievement for mastering one, except by accident after years of playing this game.

There are some I regularly use, especially the whip tornado one (which, paired with Lethal Ring, was a great tool in doing bosses flawlessly). Some are useful and reliable, others not so much. It's one of my favorite features but it has one big flaw as far as I'm concerned. One thing I really don't like is the fact that technique don't get added to the archives when you read about them, but only if you've used them. A lot of times I've read about some techniques I didn't have the weapon for and couldn't remember the specific weapons that had it to unlock it in my archives afterwards. That's a pretty nasty annoyance imo, because I'll have to resort to a guide if I want to add all techniques to my archives without creating all weapons and then running to bookcases like a madman. This is why one of my suggestions was to split out the journal and have the weapons techniques recorded separately. It's kind dumb to have them mixed in with the lore to begin with, buts also is a game play issue for exactly this reason. |

I forgot to mention a very useful technique. It's the one from the bandit blade. You can get up to 1000 critical damage with the right equipment and high level.

I use the kung-fu heels to make jumps longer than I can otherwise at times, but not very often cuz frankly I'm having some difficulty pulling it off reliably. I don't know why but the simple quarter circle motion int his game seems REALLY strict and I only have like a 50% chance of pulling it off successfully.. Kinda weird when in SotN I could do the big forward half circle back motion every damn time (or whatever it was). I can't seem to do it reliably using a keyboard OR thumbstick! I think I have the best luck using a controller d-pad but even that is only barely better. like 60% I wonder if the reduce input lag option combined w ith vsync off is screwing with it or something. I thought a reduce input lag option to be pretty weird frankly because in my experience input lag is almost always caused BY vsync.
That said, otherwise not really... Mostly because they either don't seem very good, or the weapons I happen to be using don't have any (or at least I don't know them).

I'm in the same boat mostly, but I got it pretty easily simply by using rapiers for awhile, where its input is 'mash attack'. It's still pretty useless because its dps doesn't seem that much better, and it eats mp, but oh well. |

It's so hard to get new techs since you have to find them in the journal, then remember which weapons have them (only some until you master). They should be put on the tech screen with full restrictions (weapons you can use to train) immediately. Shouldn't take randomly going through the journal to find them, and the journal should just be fore lore and story.

You CAN learn and master them without finding the journals I've accidently discovered more then a few when trying out new weapons and alot of them are the same combination.
