Pure Miriam I do remember you mentioning RB as being confirmed for a function in a past thread. Thanks for the reminder! It seems I'd forgotten it was intended for Effective Shards in the 2018 Demo (though I never was curious to look back since I already knew the basic controls from previously playing the 2016 Demo). Going back on the topic of Familiar Shards, though; I definitely need a refresher on where was it confirmed that these don't consume MP. I don't recall that being said.

Galamoth The fact that familiars are their own category and aren't rolled into say the Effective Shard category leads me to believe that they won't use MP. Why make them their own category if they're going to behave the same as Effective Shards? Now this is just speculation on my part though. I do think that the game will be more fun if the familiars always stick by your side the way they did in SotN and I think this is what IGA is going for as well.

hyugakojiro I'd certainly hope that Familiar Shards don't behave the same as Effective Shards. It's just that I don't recall where it was stated that Familiar Shards don't consume MP (assuming I did hear of it before). Yes, it does make sense to assume that it won't take MP to keep them out. Although a way in which they could [theoretically] use your MP is simply through their special attacks (assuming most, if not all, Familiars will have more than one kind of attack); which may or may not also be affected by how many of the same Shard you collect or if you enhance your Familiar it with alchemy. Ooh! Maybe the O button could be for commanding your Familiar to attack? (special attacks; not their standard support)

it has been a while since i added my answers to your amazing posts, so im going to take this one i was going to use my trademark blue text but someone already used that first 1) Considering Shards can be upgraded on their rank (picking up more of the same type) and grade (alchemy), what do you expect from leveling up Familiar Shards? Changing their looks? What they do? This question kept my mind busy for a bit. Imagine the posibilities. Maybe they learn new attacks/abilities, or maybe their AI improves. For battle types, i expect them to do more damage and some of them to gain new stuff such as SOTN bats or Shanoa's Owls multyplying.2) Do you expect Familiars to have some sort of personality (like Symphony of the Night ones had) or do you think the game will take the simpler route (like some of Aria/Dawn had). Not really. I think the fairy will have the generic healer personality ("I just want to be able to help you master") but can't say the same for the others. i expect the more monster-like to behave like... monsters
3) How many familiars do you expect Bloodstained to have? For reference, here are some numbers: Symphony of the Night: 5~8 (depending on version) Aria of Sorrow: 2 Dawn of Sorrow: 9 Curse of Darkness: 52 (the game's magic system was completely focused on familiars) Order of Ecclesia: 7 Ugh. Being one of the few peoples that opened that forbidden post we had 1 year ago. I actually know the answer to this question and IGA wasn't kidding when he said there were not going to be that many. i still regret reading that cursed but 100% accurate wall of text.
4) Considering the familiars we know so far, what other kinds / types of familiars do you expect the game to have? Can't really say. the fairy is the healer, thats for sure. but i would expect a Guardian type familiar that can block attacks or take hits for Miriam(don't think we had something like that before). the Golems in COD could do this, but they were intended for combat and were not fully dedicated to protecting the master. they could still wipe the entire room within seconds. i guess the best way to protect you from monsters its by killing them all before they can reach you, right?
5) Any comment on the familiars revealed so far? How do you expect them to be or work? i don't want to be negative but they all look meh and boring to me . Nothing particularly impressive but that buer looks like it can be good for some amazing kills and buerkick montages. looking forward to them.

Galamoth IGA said on a interview when the exclusive E3 2017 demo was shown. Since they revealed the first ever Familiar (Dullahammer Head) he said that familiars don't consume MP because they wanted players to fully use them. He said once (don't know if it was on the same interview) that when SOTN was made, they forgot to add familiars on the game balance (meaning that using familiars made the game easier) and that wasn't going to happen on Bloodstained. So, they made the game expecting the player to be equipped with a familiar at all times. Another reason for them to not consume MP.

Should familiars gain a passive ability when reached to maximum tier of shards (10)?
Some brainstorming (from phone)
DPS Familiars They attack x - y damage depending on shard-tier 1-9. Once reached 10 they get one of the following passives:
- Familiar critical hit chance - Gives you critical hit chance - Gives you faster attack/frenzy - Elemental attack attached to equiped weapons for x seconds. - Familiar goes super aggressive with cooldown.
Protective Familiars They allow a connection and absorb damage dealt on you from enemies. X - y maximum capacity between tier 1-9. At 10 it also gives one passive:
- Barrier around you that takes 50-100% of upcoming damage, cooldown. - Ignores knockback - Forcefield that knockback smaller enemies + deal minor damage, cooldown. - Familiar absorb more damage dealt on you, x seconds or cooldown.
Healing Familiars During shard-tier 1-9 a familiar can at random give you minor health (x - y). Once reached tier 10 of that particular familiar shard, you get one of the following passives:
- Full health chance if some consequences and requirements are met. - Mana Roses keeps on falling from the familiar. - Standing still gives a bit more health. - Walking/running gives a bit more health. - If frozen / petrified, you get broken free faster and without damage. - Drinking full Mana also restores full health.
Treasure Familiar Tier 1 - 9 gives you a x - y coins for just equiping the familiar, level of gold and chance depends on how many shard should have. Minor gold though, once reached shard tier 10, you gain one of these passive skills, depending on the familiar:
- More gold in one chunk, after x minutes or kills. - Turn more (or a special enemy) into gold with high chance of success. - Familiar can now also detect hidden rooms. - Prices in shops are dropped by 25%
There could also be Familiars with special abilities:
- Press switches / buttons and pull levers for us to gain more access. - Let us enter a Dreamworld perhaps. (Let us fall asleep) - Buff you with random passives during set time. - Freeze time / Slow down time.
Etc. And most of these seems OP, unless you give them minor (hit) chance, limited time or cooldowns being active.

I'll keep this simple:
I hope they function more like SOTN. I want more personality, I want them to level up and gain new abilities, i think it'd be cool if they were unique to enemies in the game but it's looking like that's not the case.
As far as the rumor there isn't a lot in the game.... | Good..I rather there be less that have far more detail and personality than a huge amount with no personality.

I'd expect somewhere between 10-15. I also want them to be more useful than most of the previous familiars besides the Innocent Devils of CoD. Hell one of the biggest reasons I adore that game is its focus entirely on familiars. There were a lot of great designs and most of them felt useful. Birds were by far my favorite with the two dragons and the phoenix, even the Crow was a favorite since I just love crow calls and the zombie crystal Crow looked so cool; but Corpsey and the mages were great too.
I'd love it if they learned abilities, like if the fairy learned healing spells and buff spells or something but I HIGHLY doubt this is the case. I expect the other style: more or less a moving hitbox that may or may not be useful.
