What are your thoughts so far? I am going with Sobble for sure the new stealth mudkip. I am slightly optimistic timeline issues aside. I still worry about the status of pokemon bank and switch but I am sure more info will be released. Over all I like the visuals and hope we will be getting pokedex size pokemon. Pokemon whip would be a funny third version but gamefreak already had to deal with PETA before lol. Also I recomend you change the name of the post for example "Pokémon Sword & Shield: Have at You." Well...I like the idea of Sword and Shield, I think I would go with Grookey, and the map looks very interesting (if a little linear). However, both visually and based on the kind of features shown so far, it doesn't look like the big leap forward I--and I think others?--were expecting. I thought there were earlier statements by the creators made around the time Let's Go was announced that the next generation would be reexamining the Pokemon formula. Nothing I saw was bad, by any means--and some areas look really charming--but it sort of strikes me as a higher-res Sun & Moon with a different setting. It's the sort of Pokemon entry I would have expected during the Gamecube or Wii era. But time will tell.

I'm pretty interested in it, so far. The new starters seem a little meh, but I'm sticking to what I did since gen1 (except screw Blaziken, went Serperior) and going with Fire starter. Good chance it may evolve into a Fire/Fairy type, so should be interesting. Hoping there may be more in the way of exploration, though, since they'll be able to use much better hardware limitations due to finally having a main game on console.

I'm in "wait and see for more information" mode right now. The 3DS era really burnt me out on mainline Pokémon. The mindless ease of moving forward, the dearth of compelling post-game content, the quest markers in Sun and Moon that you couldn't turn off... Despite Sun and Moon having a few refreshing improvements over previous games, the burnout had already set in, and I still haven't actually finished it.
The comment Ohmori made about wanting "to create the greatest Pokémon experience yet" is inspiring, but it's also worrying. Much like Sonic Team, Game Freak's priorities are, well... Game Freak's idea of the greatest Pokémon experience yet, and our idea of the greatest Pokémon experience yet, may be two very different experiences.
On a more optimistic note, that underground area brought back memories. Could Secret Bases be making a return?

Oddly enough what is burning me out with pokemon is something most people do not care about the timeline. From Gen 3 - XY it was a some what normal timeline From ORAS-ULTRA SuMo it's a infinite reality mess. SuMo/Ultra had mega evolution remake Wally and original timeline Red/Blue, Cynthia, Sina/ Dexio, Grimsley, Colress, Burnet from dream radar, plus oaks brother, still the mystery of Salon Maiden Anabel and 2 lookers muddies the water. The ultra post game of alternate reality Bad guy team leaders also adds to the confusion. I also feel like the gen 2 remake was the last one that made sense. If they keep this rout the timeline will be like the Simpsons a floating timeline. We will have every gen remade and remade again with new ones 3 times a decade then remakes of remakes and so on. I know Gamefreak really does not care for the timeline when their only attempt at explaining it was removed from twitter and it was bad. They basically implied that ORAS replaced the R/S/E which would not make sense in the timeline. In retrospect having third versions made more sense because it would be the definitive version of the story. Yeah I rambled to much. Basically I don't want remakes I want region sequels. Pokemon is starting to have a timeline similar to digimon lol :/ The current state of pokemon

At this point, I stopped caring about the sequence of the timeline and prioritized my attention over the actual plot. All I ask for from Sword and Shield is a somewhat darker plot. I don't want any super friendly rival or excessive hand-holding either. I want to feel powerless, that's exactly what'll allow me to feel like I am progressing.
Also, Team Grooky here. I love monkeys. I also love the setting, like, damn. Those buildings give off a steampunk gothic vibe for some reason. Also, is there color grading in that game? It looks very vibrant.

I love monkeys. I also love the setting, like, damn. Those buildings give off a steampunk gothic vibe for some reason. Also, is there color grading in that game? It looks very vibrant. I get what you mean but this is how I view the timeline. Timeline 1 : (Red/Blue Yellow)–> (Gold/Silver Crystal)
Timeline 2 : (Fire Red/ Leaf Green)( Ruby/Sapphire Emerald) - > (Pearl/Diamond Platinum)(Heart Gold/ Soul Silver) - > (Black/White) - > (Black 2/ White 2) - > (X/Y)
Timeline Doctor Who : (Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire)(Sun/Moon)(Ultra Sun/ Ultra Moon)
Only thing keeping (Sun/Moon)(Ultra Sun/ Ultra Moon) from being in timeline 2 is Anabelle fell from a wormhole and has memories of being a frontier brain, then you fight gen 3 remake Wally in the battle tree later on and he comes from a Hoenn with no battle frontier. Only way to fix that is say Annebelle fell from the wormhole but only traveled thru time and distance from Hoenn to Alola. Also Wally just happens to dress like his remake counterpart now and has physically not aged much unlike red and blue. Also Mr Bonding being waved away as a dumb joke/spirit since people fusing is not really a Pokemon norm.
If they remake each game we will have an infinite loop of the same timeline over and over but more advanced each time
Only way to work around this is say remakes after gen 2 are elseworld tales and pokemon can transfer from them to the main timeline because (Ultra Wormholes/ Distortion world/ Dream world)
Again more complex then Gamefreak really cares to be. Yes I over thought this.
There is no longer a reason for remakes, pokemon bank keeps the technology connected and if gen 3 remakes and gen 7 did not mess things up, a cohesive normal timeline could have kept going. Sequels to regions will be the better route.

I'm probably going to get Shield, and I'm probably going with Sobble. I'll choose based on the 3rd evolution of course, so we'll see then. I have to get a Switch first, however.

This is the first pokemon I am kinda excited about since red & blue... didn't have friends to trade with so I felt like I was missing out... this time I hope there is online pokemon trading so we could trade without knowing the person IRL... I wish I could say what starter I will be going with but until I see their final evolutions I am on the fence but leaning toward scorbunny or sobble but again I won't know until the final evolutions are shown.
thrashinuva congrats on getting a switch!!! hope you got a good game (or some good games) to tide you over till sword and shield.

I got Xenoblade 2. Holding out on other games until more income. DMC5 comes out soon (today?) and I already have that lined up. I have to finish DQXI too as well as Nier. I've got a ton of games that I can be playing until Sword and Shield, and I will probably buy Ultra Sun as well since I initially skipped Sun and Moon.

I threatened to break my friend's spine if he decided to spoil the game for me (of course that was a joke). I'm bloody 20$ short, can't buy the game yet. And MAAAAAAAAAN, going around Youtube is gonna be a pain.

YouTube is always a risk. I should only say that I've enjoyed what I played so far quite a lot. I've also encountered some graphical issues that I'm not sure how to fix, and it's hard to seek too much information without spoiling myself lol. PS4/XBOX versions might be a good idea to sidestep this thing, as it seems most issues are entirely different from each other. At least the one I have is not that problematic.

I'm looking forward these games, probably because I only have one game for my Switch currently. I'd probably end up going with Shield over Sword...but we'll see. I do wish that this game would be more difficult than previous tiles, particularly X and Y. That's just my opinion of course.
As for the starters, I think they're okay. Not sure which one I'd pick, but a friend of mine is Team Sadboy (Sobble). Although, I tend to pick the Grass starters, but its final type is Grass-Fighting, I'll probably pick Sadboy,
Wonder if they'll ever make a Pokemon game where the starters' final evolution are different based on the version you have.

@autumn With the Switch being able to have multiple accounts, it may not be as big of a hassle if Pokebank will release on the Nintendo Shop as well. It could definitely encourage someone to get Pokebank.
