Hi there! As mentioned in the title, let's talk about Japanese music talents and their musics Anything related would be fine, from bands to Anisong, doujin/indie/VOCALOID creators to Michiru Yamane (who I respect the most in VGM field). Feel free to share the thoughts! I'm devoted into J-rock bands, especially math rock/post-rock bands, like nuito and sajjanu, they're creating some craziest thing I've ever heard. Recently I'm listening to syrup16g.

I'm not an expert in the subject =P I listen to J-Pop mainly in a radio fashion. I usually listen to Radio Tunes J-Pop channel (it was sky.fm before, but changed it name)

I'm a metalhead, and I like instruments, and vocals are something I generally dislike. I don't mean metal vocals, but pretty much ALL vocals. The human voice just doesn't do it for me, and when singing, and they have that annoying as @#%%@# vibrato.. UGH I HATE THAT.
Fortunately with black or death metal, famous for silly ass vocals that sound like growling or grunting and...well black metal often screeches..but even then... in those genres of music, the vocalist is often muted or not really in the forefront of the music, it doesn't really stand out (aside from how unusual it is from typical music.. but in terms of gain/volume, it doesn't stand out). So I could appreciate the music in those genres, AND not be annoyed by the vocals at the same time...
Then I discovered Japanese indie music...where there is lots of metal with absolutely no vocals at all... EEEK.
Some tracks I really enjoy:
I could list a million, I'll stop now

Ah this. Well kind of into this. In fact Touhou remixes of various sorts are some 90% of what I listen to these days. Like these for example:
...I think I need to stop now.

I happen to be a fan of Kawada Mami. I like most, if not all of her songs.
Portamento is up there in my top favorites list.

Japanese music, huh? Well... there's always Melt-Banana... The music is awesome. The vocalist... is a bit of an acquired taste.

As a matter of fact I have not, I'll try to remember checking them out next time I'm in the mood for music hunting. Sorry for slow reply, I read this on the phone and couldn't reply, then forgot about the thread. I thought you mentioned crowsclaw too though, why'd you edit it out? I HAVE heard of them, IIRC they weren't bad but I don't recall really getting into any of their stuff, maybe a song or two, I really don't remember. I actually haven't listened to much music as of late... There WAS one band that didn't have a lot of songs I really liked that had a mix for "Be of Good cheer!" which was more prog than metal IIRC but man I loved that track...can't remember who it was. I wonder if it was crows claw =P. Do you know the magnum opus touhou band? I love their stuff. I'm kinda bummed how myonmyon went vocal though ever since yellow cake or whatever that album was.. blech.. it's the bad kind of vocals too, the kind that's in the front of everything and is impossible to ignore.

The reason I edited CROW'SCLAW out is they went totally vocal in recent albums... But I kinda remember they still produce original instrumental metal albums. Oh, and Unlucky Morpheus and UI-70, they're good too but not memorable... まぐなむお~ぱす, okay I'll check that out:)

Videos of this particular song have been taken down from YouTube for copyright reasons numerous times in the year it was released. Here's one video I found, admittedly not at the highest quality. Enjoy while it's still on YouTube! (Edit: Complete with cross-dressing band members) Ooh! Another version. A lyric-less version, but it has 6 different camera perspectives/"versions" in one video.

Ahh I found the Be of Good Cheer! mix I liked alot:
Not sure why I like it so much, it's more rocky than metal which I normally don't especially like, but.. I really like this one.
I tried ul-70 awhile back and they were too proggy for my tastes, this was like 4 years ago or something though so I dunno if they have changed since.

I never listened to much Japanese music but for a while i really enjoyed this band. Oh Janne Da Arc. The first Visual-kei band I've ever met, the first song I heard from them is the theme of Japanese version Megaman X8 named Wild Fang. Then I came across Black Jack, the first OP is from them named 月光花 (Moonlight Flower).
