I'll be making a music topic shortly, but my thoughts on this are basically that I like how the village doesn't have a song on its first visit and I think that's important - it increases the impact of the castle being dark/not having a song until the statue falls and the area lights up. That catches your attention. If there's only a few seconds' moment of quiet, the effect isn't as pronounced. That feeling should be increased by the song choice I think, but more on that elsewhere.
Perhaps on return visits, yes, the village could have a song, but nothing too aggressive or obvious would be best I think. It also needs to transition well into Dominique and Johannes' music.

Add a howling wind and it'll be fine IMO.

Silence first playthrough. Then add music when we come back, or howling winds, monstersounds, sea shore sounds.

I was wondering about the musicless village when the thought occurred to me: there are supposed to be other villagers miriam meets, right? They can't all fit in the building forever. Wouldn't it make sense that, during the course of events or quest completion, the village starts to get restored, complete with its own village music? That would be my reasoning for having no music at the outset, at least.

That would be my reasoning for having no music at the outset, at least. That would certainly be an interesting progression. It seemed a little curious to me that Iga, who has such a definite vision and an eye for detail, could simply overlook the lack of ambiance.

I suggest enemies be removed entirely in this area and additional ambient sound effects upon first pass of the village. I understand that the tension is important prior to entering the main event, "The Castle". Perhaps after entering the castle the game is triggered to spawn the enemies AND perhaps even play some low key music in the village.
I think the village could do WITHOUT the harpies as well, given it should be a slow/mellow area. Harpies are a bit sporatic for my taste in an area such as the ramsacked village.
Side note, Can we remove the rave party that's happening in the foreground that we're not seeing.... clearly they favor WHITE LIGHTS...
