Hello,
I just wanted to take a moment to post my feelings on the state of Bloodstained. As I have stated on the kickstarter page before my friends and I are HUGE fans of the genre and consider SOTN to be the greatest game ever made. I am so grateful to be able to experience Bloodstained and I truly cannot wait for the finished product. Having said this, I feel like the game is taking leaps in the right direction. I figured I would just list a few things here that I noticed good and bad so it may be read and hopefully considered. Thanks a ton for everything and everyone involved.
-The title announced, "Bloodstained" is wonderful. It reminds me of the early days of Resident Evil when they would announce it as the game started up...really great stuff.
-I really appreciated the opening data selection background song, its dead on and sets a great mood.
-So far, all the voice acting I have encountered is really decent. It doesn't distract like a lot of games.
-I feel like the story text moments with character artwork could be improved. The lip movement and general lack of polish on the characters shows.
-The text playback, while it may be working as intended is distracting as it attempts to judge where it should cut off one line and then shoot to the next. Not a huge deal, but noticeable.
-The alchemy system seems great overall
-The animation variation and attack styles are well defined between weapons and I REALLY appreciate that.
-The "wet" look of a lot of enemies and items (walls, etc etc) seems a bit out of place. It's too shiny for my taste and I don't know that it completely fits the game type. I feel like if everything was overly wet and shiny it may all go together but it feels disconnected somehow with some areas as it stands now. This could be a problem more associated to my next statement.
-There is a overall LACK of 3D and texture polish that does hinder my enjoyment some. This is my main concern. I couldn't imagine the amount of time and effort that goes in to that, but I really feel like if there was one MAIN focus with the remainder of development time it should go to just adding as much detail as possible. The core game mechanics feel pretty spot on in my opinion but there are moments where I have to notice a really underdeveloped piece of earth and a really nice statue that just doesn't quite have that touch it needs to really bring you in to the castle (a very auto, low res cpu generated look and feel). There are GREAT moments, for example, the SAVE room generally feels like some care was taken to polish it. Certain enemies are really great, detailed and entertaining to watch....while others seem like they could use some work. This could just be me, but one thing I never really liked, was really rounded, poorly defined blob type enemies. For example, capcom tends to do this with monsters in a lot of there games and to me it seems like a shortcut. Every enemy in SOTN had purpose and was defined and beautiful. Blobs or 3D data are really not.
Once again, I love it. I love being apart of it and everyone working on this. I hope someone might see this and just consider what i'm saying.
Also worth noting, that I have yet to experience any game breaking bugs etc. It has run silky smooth thus far.
Thanks!
