I'm not asking this because I am impatient. I want IGA and his team to take their time. I'm in no hurry. But given the sudden launch of the retro mini-game and recent updates, I'm curious in terms of how a game comes together--especially considering how this is has been a social experience via Kickstarter.
The recent videos we've been shown with the cave area or the place with the Decarabia enemy look like the game isn't more than, say, 50-60% done. (The menus still look a little rough, too.) On the other hand, there was also the event video presentation of the revised first boss, which was greatly improved over the demo. This is supposed to be a huge castle (bigger than SotN) and we've been told that more visual polish and effects are coming, so how does a game like this come together? I would imagine after the basic gameplay is settled that the castle structure comes first and then the enemy placement, and then the polish. But again, with the size of the castle and all the stretch goals, I wonder if it's realistic to expect this game this year. How fast do all these things generally come together? Is there a point in development where it all comes together rapid fire, like dominoes? Personally, and I have no problem with this, I wouldn't expect to see the game we were promised until sometime between Spring and Summer of 2019. But then again, I remember the old days, when you'd get screenshots of a game six months out, and no matter how it looked, it generally came together and came out miraculously at the end of the same year. So, for those who might have more technical knowledge, what stage do you think the game is in, based on what we've seen?
PS: And if it is much further along than what we've been shown, I'm fine with that, too, as it means less spoilers. I don't need to see much more, personally. I'm just saying I haven't been given the mindset that it is super far along in terms of the overall main game.

I would say they are 70% done. It will get delayed until 2019 if they do not do staggered release.

RichterBthis is actually important and i understand your concerns as personally i share many of them with you. Like you, i'm a little worried for how the things have been looking so far. We haven't seen solid gameplay since the last year with E3 2017 Demo, only small previews of monsters, fashion and visuals but what about gameplay? other than the new buer familiar and crafting system we really haven't seen how the game has improved in terms of playability and the visuals of the environments (this is important). while its easy to understand that the last update was actually intended to talk about the kickstarter closing, that decarabia preview left me with a bit of dissapointment and frustration, because yes!, i understand that maybe it was a WIP showcasing the monster and nothing else but if that wasn't the case then its something to worry about because personally i couldn't see any improvement. My expectations for this game are really really high (5.5million budget + IGA's Experience High) so it is understandable i get to go crazy when i just don't see how much the game has changed in 2 years from that we saw back in 2016 in the galleon Minerva. Honestly i don't think the game gets delayed to 2019, we have been told that the game is indeed coming this year and the next and hopefully last demo is coming out in June just like the E3 and i don't think thats a mere coincidence. Im crossing my fingers and holding my toungue until i watch/play the next demo because that demo is most likely going to be the most accurate representation of the actual finished game so im expecting improvement. to answer your question, i would say the game its about 70% MUSIC - HELL YESVOICE ACTING - HELL YESVISUALS AND ENVIRONMENT - NOT YET (mostly talking about the unsatisfying feel you get when attacking and killing monsters as well as the look of whats going on in the background and why it feels so empty.)GAMEPLAY - YES BUT NOT YETall we can do is wait..... and play the hell out of curse of the moon because it looks awesome >_>

I appreciate everybody's thoughts and would love to hear more. Well, Arsenical , at SXSW 2018, there was some new gameplay shown. They really updated the first boss encounter visually and model-wise: This is the older version of boss for comparison: Things are improving, but it's hard to know how fast these improvements are being spread throughout the project.

It should be 80-90% done at this point. If they're still working on the gameplay and not focusing on lighting and other finishing touches at this point, Then we'll likely get the game almost a year later than IGA promised, even factoring in that year long delay announced back in 2017.
