XombieMike aah, so try to be a completionist in the first part of the game at least, okay :3 I'll do that. Will help to get a good grasp of the controls too. Aaand yup except all the cult-like stuff, Bloodborne does feel a lot like an amazing Castlevania with a mid-to-high difficulty, I guess that's why I immediately fell in love with it and felt so compelled to get the DLC and a plat trophy xD (Queen Yharnam's one is quite difficult to get for the amount of work you have to put into it, but it's definitely soooo worth it once you defeat her >_< play the game, please... play iiiit!! And try to work to fight the queen QwQ <3)

I can't believe I'm attempting this again, but after I've finished playthroughs of several other games I've listed here before, I'm now starting another character in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition. I'm really burned out on Skyrim after completing all DLC content for one character about 4 years ago... but I'm going to try to start over again (despite my annoyance at the length of the intro & how long it takes me to decide on what Race I want my character to be). Maybe I should just wait until the 6th game?

I have been playing 7th Dragon on the DS again. And after having a lot of problems with a particular dragon after so much time, I have finally decided to stop the solo adventure and actually create other characters for my party. It still is not a full party, there are only 3 members. I'm quite surprised at just how much easy things became. I made quite a decent amount of progress in few hours of gameplay! Even if their levels are way below mine, since they are there for support (offensive and defensive support mostly, one being a Healer and the other a Fighter), it barely becomes noticeable, the whole game became way more fun again, I use completely different strategies now, since I'm not on my own anymore.
I really like the customization in this game and also the character creation and classes, it is pretty fun with a solo run too, however, the game is certainly better enjoyed with more than one member in your party. The skill trees for each class are considerably large, and allow for a lot of choices for different playstyles. It can be quite hard sometimes if you don't manage your team well, but it is so satisfying when you start to learn the mechanics more and more.

...except all the cult-like stuff, Bloodborne does feel a lot like an amazing Castlevania with a mid-to-high difficulty... XombieMike You really should try Bloodborne. There is a reason why some consider it a good 3Dvania. Plenty of exploration and weird stuff to find... In my opinion, the thing with Bloodborne is that it's not a full-fledged 3D Castlevania because it doesn't have legitimate built-in platforming design. However, it does have great atmosphere and design and probably could be considered a bit of a continuation of what IGA's "interpretation" of 3D Castlevania was with LoI and CoD, albeit more refined. One's mileage will vary, but my personal litmus test for 3D Castlevania is it has to have areas like the Castle Wall:
...Myself, been playing Mega Man X3 lately...

Well, if you ask me, the path to the upper cathedral ward only had to be bigger to be a perfect substitute to the outer wall XP True, Bloodborne feels like it fails hard in having such a dull jump, but I guess that's the "charm" of every soulsborne out there. Plus, it's not like it's super useful... I'd appreciate hanging from ledges, though... that way you wouldn't have to climb a path a thousand timesjust because you can't get a jump right :/ It makes a good difference, though, in feeling like Castlevania, yet not being it by a long shot. On topic, now: I finally got my Plat trophy in bloodborne, and so I moved on to start Dark Souls 3... I'm starting to feel bad though, it feels like I dropped the witcher 3 for good... it feels just too easy at times :/ I'm level 4, doing a level 9 quest, and I don't really feel the challenge or the need to "play safe"... Geralt can just facetank everything and meditate for two seconds afterwards

I remember playing Ultima 7 when I was a kid and gog.com was having a firesale (89 cents for it, I want to say? Maybe its still there? Dunno) so I decided to give it another go.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING.
(But yes, I guess I'm "technically" playing that right now, heh)

Technically, I'm playing Evil Within 2 as well as Bloodstained Curse of the Moon. However, I don't want to get into either of those.
I played DMC5 at PAX West! I was going for the S-rank splash screen for the demo. It's supposed to be insanely hard to get. "High style points, cut down on time(meaning no cutscenes), DON'T GET HIT". Well, I did two of those. Despite getting S's and even a Double S rank in fights, I got hit 3 times. Once in a normal fight and twice during the boss fight. It was...humbling, but I didn't see anyone else come close to what I did that day, so I'm proud of that. I can't wait for that game.
Kingdom Hearts 3 was Kingdom Hearts 2 with parkour from KH: DDD and and transformations from Birth by Sleep(and the auto aiming reticule). You already knew that though. What you saw in the trailers is what you get.
Soul Calibur 6 was fun, but holy hell is it different from when I played the series back in the day. It felt better to play than modern Tekken though, which is I never thought I would find myself saying.
Darksiders 3, I didn't care for. I can't say much about it, sorry.
Fist of the North Star, the Yakuza edition was fun. I wish the guy who was demoing would stop backseat gaming though, I just wanted to fight and he wanted me to do the super special moves.(I'm thinking "I'll do those when I buy the game!")
Shadow of the Tomb Raider was more of the same. Though I'm starting to find that I prefer playing the reboot series on PC. On consoles, Lara feels waaaay too loose. It felt like she didn't have any weight to her at all. I forgot the reason for this, but it might have to do with FPS from what my friend was telling me.

I'm playing more Curse of the Moon. I'm trying to unlock Ultimate Mode, but alas even in games like this I'm not very good. I'll keep pressing on though. I've played a bit of Touhou Luna Nights which is an extremely well-animated Metroidvania(touhouvania??) on steam early access. So far, it's great. It feels and looks like that one Jack Frost metroidvania browser game. Even with Sakuya's limitations, she's still overpowered. That's Touhou for you. Timespinner is only ok so far. Music is ok, gameplay is ok, story is ok, and I think I'm almost halfway through it 1 hour in. It's barely worth the 15 I pre-ordered it for and it's definitely not worth the $20. I stopped Evil Within 2 for now, the performance issues I'm having are killing the enjoyment of an otherwise superior sequel in every regard.

I tried to wait. I tried waiting to talk about this, but I can't. I went on an absolute Castlevania bingefest. It was practically a marathon. It all started with the release of that Rondo of Blood/Symphony of the Night collection dropping on PS4. Awesome, now I don't have to dig out my 360 to get closure on Symphony. I had already beaten Rondo of Blood some years back and still thought it was my favorite Castlevania game ever made. It was about time that I finished the sequel. However, there were other games caught in the crosses and holy fire: Super Castlevania 4:
I played this game on and off, but never sat down to fully complete it. I'm so happy that I finally did. Everyone talks about the amazing control and the visuals of this game. I don't think that does this game any justice. These controls are fantastic and they really went ham on the mode 7/visual trickery. I think this game might have one of the best versions of Bloody Tears. I love the percussion in that piece. It is on the easy side...in fact it's very easy, I still don't see why this style of game couldn't have been improved upon and given more challenges. A Doom 2 to the original Doom, if you will. It's a shame we never got anything to fully follow this up. Castlevania Bloodlines: I had originally played this and got to stage 5 or Stage 6 and never finished it saying I would come back to it.(That's going to be an ongoing theme, by the way) I wanted revenge, and I finally got it! This game is extremely underrated. I never understood why it was never ported. I mean, yes there's a ton of blood and gore(a surprising amount, but it was rated General Audiences. I love swinging and super jumping in this game. The fact that I'm traveling across Europe gave me this idea that Eric and John have some sort of cool car or an airship. I know that might not be the case, but it gave me funny to think about. I also love the sound effects in this game, even the extreme twangs of the Genesis. The whip noises for me are a highlight. It's easily in my top 5 CV games and that music is still blasting in my head as sit down to write this. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin: AKA the real reason I went back to Bloodlines. This game is a mess, but I still really like it. Why do I call it a mess? Out of all the DS Castlevania games, this one froze on me the most. A grand total of SEVEN TIMES, this game froze on me. Not only that I hate this game's art style. Weird that the one game that features a story involving paintings and they chose NOT to use Kojima's art. What a weird missed opportunity and I hated the art style they used for Dawn of Sorrow as well, so I'm not solely picking on this game. Maybe it's just me, but I find it weird that the only character to have a real arc is Johnathan. He starts out weak, dumb, and has this whole "my father was a dick" arc that by this point I had gotten sick of. Also his subweapons start out as trash...in addition to finding them. You have to level them up...also he can't use the Vampire Killer until he proves his worth. So, if you do all this and progress in the story he becomes the better character story-wise. Charlotte starts out perfect and ends perfect. Other than finding her spells, there's no real progression with her. The whole not wanting to be treated like a child isn't a character flaw, it's a quirk at best and simply requires showing her some basic respect. I like her, but she's the unofficial mentor seeing as how most of the "Talk" conversations are either her teaching Johnathan how to play the game or scolding him for not doing good enough. One last thing, I hated every Circus level. The music, the color palette, the enemy locations, and overall level design came together to give me the biggest headache.(I'll go more into this for Symphony of the Night) Now that I'm done with all that, let's talk about what I actually liked. Johnathan's subweapons, once leveled, became my go-to MP use in the game. I had a ton of fun finding and trying out the new weapons. Richter Belmont's weakness...is a banana cream pie. I can't even begin to make this up. I started off not caring for the music much, but then I kept running into different paintings and being floored by some of the remixes. Cross your heart(crucifix your heart?) and Iron Blue Intention are the clear highlights. The latter of which hammers home the whole "Sequel to Bloodlines" feel the game has. The boss fights, save one, were all fantastic. My favorites were The Creature(NOT THE ONE FROM THE NEST OF EVIL WHERE YOU HAVE TO FIGHT TWO), Death, The Sisters, Brauner, and Richter. While I found it weird that John and Eric weren't playable as Gaiden characters in a sequel to THEIR game, the extra playable characters were fun too. I enjoyed this game a lot more than Dawn of Sorrow and I think it functions better as a direct sequel to a previous game. It's the second best DS CV for me. This game didn't make my top 5 though. AAAAANNNNND now for the main event: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night:As I said earlier, I've restarted this game more times than any other Castlevania game. The reason why had nothing to do with the difficulty. The reason why, is due to laziness and boredom. The game IS NOT BORING in the least, but my attention span back then and even these days is weak. I'm working on it slowly but surely and this genre of game can be played piece-meal, I think the real fun is binging the hell out of it. That's when my chance to finally put this game to rest came with the PS4 re-release. I had always thought that the so-called most popular and best game in the franchise didn't get a steam release or multiple ports by now. It got ports, but not the ones you would think. The 360/XBLA one was the one that introduced the game to me, so thankfully I avoided the load times. I did get to experience that AMAZING voice acting. A fun tip about that, apparently the voice director was telling the actors to inflect their words in weird places rather than how they would naturally say it. My friend told me that was why the original voice work in that game was so weird. A good explanation that I accepted, because the voices in the game never struck me as bad. Robbie Belgrade is still my go-to Alucard. This is why it pains me that they went with the PSP voice work instead. I know the PS4 port was a port of the PSP port...(say that 10 times fast), but come on. That original voice work is legendary and I still find myself quoting it. The PSP acting is fine, a bit wooden, but fine. Yuri Lowenthal is NO Alucard. Patrick Seitz is a generic Dracula; he's nowhere near as legendary. There was one awesome thing about the PSP port, some of the extra content from the Saturn version was brought over. I capitalized on this by going after the extra familiars and making the Fairy sing. Nocturne the english version is still a beautiful song. I could listen to either version and be enraptured. I've been beating around the bush a bit, so I'm going to get into it for real this time. I completed the game with 198% castle completion and I used about 40% of Alucard's moveset. I didn't use spells, fists, most of the familiars, or good portion of the weapons. The second I got the shield rod, it changed how I played completely. I used that until I got to...that second part of the game. That's when I found the Crissaegrim and I proceeded to ignore every other challenge in this game. My restarts had nothing to do with difficulty, I would just stop playing thinking I would go back to it...and never do. Then I would come back 6+ months later...forget what I was doing and figure I wasn't that far in the game anyway so I'll just restart. Rinse and repeat. I love the spritework in this game...though at this point I had played later games in the series of Metroidvanias/Igavanias so I was already used to seeing the monsters re-used. The music in this game, is really good. Not my favorite OST in this series, that goes to Rondo of Blood, but a lot of great compositions. My favorite track is Wandering Ghosts. It's funky as hell and just like Opus 13 and the Ghost ship theme from Rondo of Blood, it never showed up in the series again...*sigh* By the way, I didn't bother playing Richter or Maria mode. I started them up just in case I get the bug to try them out, but I don't like how they feel like extreme glass canons...especially Maria. I'm also no good at the button inputs. I'm a fighting game player, but having to press up messes with me. I'm used to quarter and half-circles. That's also why I didn't use spells that much. I'm going to talk about the inverted castle now. I hate it with a passion. I told my friend this and he sent me this image: I'm still laughing about this. The inverted castle comes across as lazy. It's only challenge is in the enemy placement, which went from fair and balanced to stupid. I didn't like having to constantly turn into a bat for mundane traversal. I didn't like having to turn into a wolf just so the cavern levels would register the water sections on my map. It feels like broken pieces of level design slapped together...just like the circus levels from Portrait of Ruin.(What, you thought I forgot about that?) THIS is why, I'm hoping...PRAYING that Bloodstained doesn't borrow every single element from Symphony. Symphony is still fantastic and it is definitely in my top five CVs, but that inverted castle is a low point that I never want to see repeated. I am so glad, to have finally beaten Symphony of the Night. If I ever come back to it, I'm playing the 360 port or the PS1 classics port because I NEED "DIE MONSTER". PS: Fuck Galamoth. What an asshole he was, even with the Crissaegrim. How could the nicest guy on this forum be such a dick. ....justkiddingIloveyouGalamoth You know what? I'll throw in a bonus: Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia: I'm not finished with this game yet. However, I did restart it multiple times as I did with SOTN...the second most I believe. Why is this? Emulation across different computers...until I finally had the money to grab a physical copy which the price finally eased off. So far, I'm having a great time. Due to my experience with these types of games now, I'm a lot more comfortable with the difficulty than someone just starting out. The art style is fantastic, Shanoa and Albus are great characters so far, and I love the music. The glyph system was a bit weird, but it's made me catch the completion-ist bug as I want to get as many glyphs as I can. I don't really care for the magnetism mechanic. It's ok, but I would have preferred the super jumps of old. My favorite part of this game is the 3 glyph set slots. This is what I'm hoping caries over to Bloodstained. If there's a button unused, use it to switch between equipment/shard sets. I am either half-way through the game or a good quarter in, but I have no intention of stopping ever again. I'm hooked. That was my unintentional Halloween marathon. I was going to go through Silent Hill 2 or something, but I ended up doing Castlevania instead. What a ride this was. I've come to know some personal favorites. Hell, I even want to go through Rondo of Blood again just to experience that soundtrack and beat alternate stage 5 with Richter only. Cheers everyone.

I recently picked up Castlevania Requiem (which contains the re-dubbed PSP versions of Rondo of Blood & Symphony of the Night) on the PS4 and ended up doing a "Completionist" run for SotN (200.6% Map Completion, 100% complete bestiary, all relics/upgrades, all endings plus the ending for beating the game as Richter, and all trophies), so now I'm focusing on doing the same thing for my first playthrough of Rondo of Blood. Though I think I may have screwed myself out of getting the 100% completion rating the first time through since I've already rescued all the maidens and will thus be missing out on the boss fight that only occurs if you don't rescue all of them.
P.S. Dragon_of_Dojima loved that you finally tackled some classic Castlevania games (love Bloodlines and totally agree that it's an underrated title) and if you're still itching to listen to the soundtrack for Rondo of Blood you might want to look into Mondo as they recently released the soundtracks for Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood on vinyl.

I have been playing Castlevania 2 Redacted... a lot, I feel like the few fixes the game makes are huge game changers, the game feels so replayable, I play it and beat quite often, sometimes in the same day. Even the flaws that can make it frustrating are easy to be overlooked. It's actually my favorite of the first three games honestly, it's surprisingly short and along with its replayability, it gives a speedrun charm to the game. I keep wanting to play it over and get better, be faster, and try to not die. I would love to play another game similar to it, (it is quite different to a lot of the later games) with more refined mechanics and some improvements and additions. Something more sophisticated, yet still short and considerably simple. Since I feel the short length and relative straight-forwardness is what makes it so replayable and addictive for me.
While I love long games, I find appeal in shorter games too, sometimes I don't feel like investing too much time, I can just play without worries about my progress, and still get the feeling of immediate satisfaction.

I finally beat Castlevania Order of Ecclesia. After many....many...many years of restarting the game, after so much pain and anguish, after NOT DOING those maniac dungeons I have beaten the game. After doing so, I can say that it definitely isn't my favorite game in the series. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I've always preferred one location that has some twists to it rather than forest...sunken ship...prison...TWO HAUNTED MANSIONS....desert...mountain...etc. Maybe people preferred the change of pace, but I liked how Drac's castle had so much ridiculous stuff going on. A true creature of chaos. Speaking of that walking nightmare: I did like the twist that Dracula didn't transform in this fight. I'm sure the story reason is that "he was resurrected too early or too incomplete" or some such other. I was surprised to see him walking towards me with the Frankenstein Jr/Monster skeleton model. That was legitimate scary and funny. Bosses were hit or miss. Bojangles the skeleton, giant enemy crab, and the centaur formally known as Jennifer Garner were my least favorite. The rest were fine though Death was a joke this time around. What gives, what happened to the old man? Thinking back to my time with Beta Bloodstained, I'd be fine with the ship, town, and castle as far as locations. Maybe some ridiculous dark world that's an expansion/reinterpretation of the one from the Sorrow duology. Anything, but another upside-down castle. PS: I'm well aware of the recent trailer, I'm hoping that's either a gimmick for one area or a joke area. I'm also well aware that I'm in the minority of not liking the inverted castle. I did like the game overall, but it's not in my top 5. Top 10 maybe? Other than that game...Trauma Center? Hollow Knight? DUSK? Nothing unusual.

I recently started Etrian Odyssey Nexus for the 3DS. Playing on Heroic difficulty mode My initial party is of the following: Front: Hero, Pugilist, Harbinger Back: Gunner, Medic Pugilist is quite squishy but I'll see how things pan out after a few chapters. This class was very useful in the late game of EO V when I played it last year. Given that I'm playing in the most difficult setting, so far pretty much every battle is life-and-death and not necessarily because of my choice of party make-up. I feel I have a good assortment of abilities with binding-capable attacks spread out finely. Even the Medic has a head-binding attack early on! And by the way, awesome music by the man named Koshiro Yūzō! This will be the last Etrian Odyssey game released for the 3DS. But somehow the series will continue on the Switch from what I've been hearing. I wonder how the need for a resistive touch-screen to draw maps will be integrated and implemented for the Switch. I like drawing maps

Weird, but I decided to take a break from video games and focus on Tabletop RPGs.
Running Shadow of the Demon Lord, perhaps the darkest RPG ever made that is not only playable, but easy to run and ridiculous fun.
Also running Advanced Labyrinth Lord (a 1st edition AD&D hack) building to the megadungeon known as Stonehell Dungeon.
I am initiated in High Nerdery.
