Well we have an alchemist as the Heroine, so different potions would be my go to. Not so sure about that, I thought that Johannes was the alchemist. Miriam is more like a freshly awakened amnesiac with massive magical potential. If Johannes is playable, he'd probably have alchemical items and more traditional sub-weapons, while Miriam might have magic spells to fill that same role. But, if I could pick between "Miriam, Johannes, and an as of yet unrevealed third character" and "Miriam, Gebel, and an as of yet unrevealed third character" as options to play as, I'd go for the variant with Gebel in it. He looks much too Alucard-y (which I'm sure was intentional) not to go with.

I guess it's not established that she's an alchemist, but seeing as she was taken in by alchemists, I assumed she might have learned from them, or at least have access to their equipment since the castle appeared at the site of the old Alchemist’s Guild. So she most likely isn't an alchemist herself, but it would make sense that alchemy would be the most likely substitute for sub-weapons.

I was under the impression that she was taken in along with Gebel and a bunch of other kids(?) by The Alchemists for the sole purpose of subjecting them to the Magi-crystal curse. A cruel fate really. I don't think those alchemists(except Johannes) would impart any of their knowledge on them. I could be wrong though.

Which is why I said Johannes is probably the one who'll do all the crafting.

I have memories of constantly setting off sub-weapons by accident in SOTN and wasting my hearts. Hopefully if something like sub-weapons is included the button placement is a little less awkward.

There definitely shouldn't be a Shield Rod+Alucard Shield combination, that's for sure. Galamoth goes down in less than 10 seconds with that combo. And he's an optional boss. I hope there is a combo like that, only for the simple fact it added a cool and unique way to win the game. I know it was OP, and shouldn't be easy to get, and certainly hard enough to obtain that most people wouldn't get it on their first run through, ya know?

It wasn't just OP. It broke the game's difficulty. It's like using a nuke(that you're immune to) in a knife fight, it's just not right.

I'm also of the mind-set that they will have spells and abilities in place of subweapons. My hope is that they do it either in the 'key your inputs' style, or the style in which you select 4 specials and hit a direction (or none) and a button to activate them.
I hope they also upgrade in some way (either by applying runes/items, gaining exp, or some combination of the above). However, I would be okay with them being static in that sense.

I will be very sad if I cannot walk around leaving trails of holy crackers on the ground for the castles rodent population to enjoy at night. My desire to share this salty treat is the only reason I achieved 212% map completion.
I also spent an extraordinary amount of the time trying to create a perfect superman crest pattern in different rooms using the ricochet thingy.
Bottom line is yes, I need sub weapons... because.

Absolutely no need for sub-weapons...but an option to disable them would be ideal. We'll be buying, finding, trading and crafting real weapons. There will be magic spells. I imagine weapons with magic specials too... Yeah, sub weapons kind of destroy the difficulty....IGAVania games already have a leveling up system making them easier through all the enemy kills tacked up. How OP do you. feel you "need" to be...lol

Yeah I rarely made much use of subweapons in many of the later castlevania games, but some were pretty op too. I can't remember which ones were in the 2 PS2 castlevania games but I think there were some that granted a fairly lengthy invincibility.

Do we need subweapons? ....Betteridge's law. Do people want subweapons? Some yes, some no, some don't care. /thread that's exactly what I want to read... peoples opinion. that is the point of this forum, right? I just always felt Iga put sub weapons in because he had to... to pay homage to the original game. many times I felt most of them were forced. but as Cale posted earlier: I never really saw it that way... and the more I thought of it the more I do want something to pay homage to those old sub weapons, weather they be in spells or disposable weapons or whatever they decide. so I thank you all for your opinion and would love to hear more.

I like sub weapons but if they decide not to have them on the game, I'm fine too. Now, someone mentioned the shield rod combinations and reminds me of Crissaegrim, would you like a weapon like that? Hard to find but makes the game easier

Alchemy-related subweapons-style could do the trick, and instead of just obtain it easily destroying some candles around you should craft the alchemy recipes and enchant them if needed (like add an ingredient to add fire element to it).

But those axes were so useful for elevated targets though u.u I'm actually going for a more complete arsenal, one of the things that disappointed me the most in entries after SotN is that the variety of actions simultaneously available were reduced. I will admit that the sub weapon system itself was a little antiquated in comparison to the variety of other actions, but a good variety of actions would be more enjoyable than occasionally switching between different actions and shelving inferior actions indefinitely because they compete with better choices. I'm curious to know which systems would best replace sub weapons though. Alchemy-related subweapons-style could do the trick, and instead of just obtain it easily destroying some candles around you should craft the alchemy recipes and enchant them if needed (like add an ingredient to add fire element to it). Transmutation circle ftw... O wait ?
