Update #46
- New Dev team DICO handling localization and global development
- New Dev team Monobit handling programming and tools creation
- Updates will be even less frequent =(
We've got some more news from IGA to report! This time he's here to tell you a bit about the new developers on the project, before they introduce themselves in their own words. Hello everyone! This is IGA. For this month's update, I'd like to introduce you to our new development team. First up is DICO, a studio with a long history of localization and global development work. Many of the people here are fans of my work, and they're looking forward to working on the project. We've gathered a lot of reliable core team members for the project—in fact, one of them is a talented programmer I've worked with in the past. I have high expectations for this team—since they know my previous work inside and out, it will be easy to convey exactly what I envision for the game. DICO will be on the frontline for this stage of the main development. Next up is Monobit, a group of exceptional programmers who have experience working on game engines. They'll be providing support on all technical aspects of the project. Already they've proven capable of evaluating the challenges of this project from their own point of view and providing solutions that were easy to understand and implement. We're especially impressed by their facility in creating new tools. Since we're reorganizing the development structure, our development updates may be a little bit less frequent for the moment. But with the help of these two development studios, I believe we'll be able to deliver the quality output that the team and the backers are both anticipating. And here's a video DICO and Monobit passed along for you. (That's IGA holding the camera.)

This is probably the worst update yet... Maybe IGN will get a better update than the backers this time as well.

Ya what is this? They must know that the forum's been starving for new info to keep the hype up and to create new topics.
ANYTHING about the game would have been enough.

This just raises more questions.
Why are they adding more development groups? What happened to Inti? Why are we being kept in the dark about actual development progress? What is the status of the content contributors? What are the dev teams plans for the holidays? What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
I really just hope the cryptic nature of their communication isn't a cause for concern...

Well at least we now know who the new devs are that Iga's been talking about. I couldn't find much about them online though. Don't quite understand why it took so long to get confirmed but they probably have their reasons. So... see y'all next month?

Get to know the developers... What exactly did we get to know? Their names? Can we at least get some concept art or something?

I can't say I'm familiar with any of these new developers but I'm glad they are no longer a secret. If IGA trusts them then I'm sure they will do good work. Otherwise, not really an eventful update. We didn't learn much more about the game or its progress and there really isn't anything to discuss or an opportunity to get involved (We had the shader and castle design polls a while back as well as the E3 demo but nothing since then). I guess we will get one more update before the end of the year? Since we've been getting updates once every 4-6 weeks about does that mean we can expect updates to trend more towards the once-every-6-week timeline now (at least in the next few months)? Somewhat disappointing but I guess that's the way things play out sometimes and we gotta wait. More time to talk about the Switch I guess An aside: Can a mod put a space between "46" and "(November)" in the thread title? Thx

theyre adding these people to the already existing team to help keep true to the timeline iga has laid out with the quality standard iga has set, one provides localization, the other works on the back end providing engine/technical support so the main team doesnt have to stop production or shift gears a bunch every time they need a program or tool, which cuts down greatly on delays, nothings happened to inti or the core iga team, this is iga making responsible business decisions to keep his game on track rather than resorting to cutting corners, features, and quality to make an earlier deadline, we should be patient and let the crafters work their art

Welp, that's interesting. I'll reserve all judgement until things are more concrete.
And it seems Gematsu already has an article up...must be a new record.
That fanart of Miriam though, the second one, is gorgeous. I am thoroughly impressed. The others are good as well.

What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow? African or European swallow? ....but yeah, i still trust IGA to deliver and I'm sure he knows what he's doing. Still i can't help wondering if all this changing/growing the dev team is going to mean that certain stretch goals will not be met, I'm sure everyone will do their best to ensure a high quality product but additional people come with an additional cost. Would be interesting to see a diagram of which teams are working on which elements, i must admit i'm getting slightly confused as to who's-who and what they do, at the moment i'm not exactly reassured.

I'm too used to other forums where you can't do that It know it was a nit-picky complaint but I appreciate the fix either way <3

So yeah, it's not the most exciting update out there. Personally speaking, I'm fine with that. I'd rather IGA inform us than market to us. We're already sold on the project, after all. We already got told there was going to be a delay. Now we're seeing at least part of the why of that.
Reading a bit between the lines here, I'm guessing that IGA wanted some modifications to the UE4 engine to meet his needs(it does have source code available after all), and that Inti Creates is more experienced at working with UE4 than on it. Alternatively, it could simply be that he wants separate teams working on the low level technical and content aspects of the game to save time.
The only thing I can really tell from his choice with DICO is that he seems to be more comfortable with Japanese partner companies than in going outside for assistance. Otherwise there are more natural and possibly experienced choices for localization. That's not meant as a knock on DICO, as I have no idea how capable they might be. Just an observation.
As for less frequent updates, I can't say that I'm not disappointed in the news, but I can say that I respect them for telling us up front about it. It makes sense too. There are already people complaining about this update, and some expressed that they were underwhelmed with the last couple of updates as well. Getting monthly updates that consist mostly of organizational work isn't particularly helpful to us, and I'd rather get less frequent real updates than have them trying to figure out what they can scrap together to entertain us with each month.
We're getting into the less exciting phase of game development that is primarily the reason I don't usually follow Kickstarters I backed too closely and instead just wait for the product to be released.

DICO's HP: dico4u.com/Monobit's HP: www.monobitengine.com/I have a little bit of concern on this one. Those teams are both Japan-based, and have been done a bunch of titles, most of them are mobile ones that I never heard of... I'd say their resume... well, isn't that impressive TBH. Maybe IGA had worked with them back in his Konami days and knew they're totally capable of BS (it's a HUGE project after all). I'm not saying the team that IGA picked up has to be some incredible names... but speaking of translation, why not Playism? They're Japan-based, they've done a lot of translation (over 600 titles according to their website), and has some very solid titles, even with the Touhou ones.

The main product of Monobit is RealtimeEngine and MUN (Monobit Unity Networking), former is a network middle-ware providing real-time communication for online games, the latter is a Unity plugin for simplifying network programming. Judging from that I'd guess their role in BS is to provide support from the network / online aspect.
