I first became a fan in 2009 or 2010 when a friend of mine gave me a copy of Persona 3 FES on the PS2. From there, I ended up playing the rest of the games in that particular series. And yes, I do plan to play Persona 5 when it eventually comes out. Dancing All Night, however, I'm on the fence considering it's technically a gaiden game and therefore really doesn't have any relevance that I can see. The main P4 storyline (and by extension P3) was fully resolved in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.
I'd say my favorite game in the series thus far...is Persona 4 Golden, due to the rebalancing and addition of extra material, including two additional Social Links and a new dungeon. Sure, it'd get very easy if you grind off the Golden Hands, but then again, there's also the hardest difficulty that can counter that. Second favorite so far is Persona Q.
Also, in my free time, I'm kinda doing my own story set in the actual timeline but trying to avoid contradicting the established canon. I mentioned this before in my previous thread, actually.
If anyone's interested in knowing more about those ideas, PM me or something and I'll share them, because I'm kinda still squeamish about posting them for everyone to see and then getting, well, negative feedback. Then again, that's the thing when asking for another person's opinion: you have to risk getting a negative one.
As for the actual Shin Megami Tensei series, I know very little about it because I hear that they are really difficult, especially the ones with the Press Turn system. Not that I'm planning to disregard those games altogether. I might give them a chance eventually.
Anyway, to those who are fans, why not share some of your favorite moments and things from the two series?

My Favorite moment had to been when my wife went to a wedding for 3 days, and I filled the living room with charts cross referencing all the possible combinations of demons to be spliced, staying up for 48 hours trying to "catch them all".
You need to play SMT Nocturne on Ps2 if you haven't

You need to play SMT Nocturne on Ps2 if you haven't There's also the whole issue of trying to "reshuffle" fusions so that you can get the skills you want. Could take either a few minutes or a few HOURS! Thank God it was made easier in Golden and Q.

I played Persona 3 FES undubbed, and Persona 4 undubbed on PS2. P3FES's "The Answer" was the hardest part I had to go through out of those two games. I remember spending a good week trying to fuse the perfect Izanagi in P4. Had to go through a chart of personas, and what skills carry over to what...
I have a copy of SMT Nocturne for PS2, and yeah, you really need to play it. Just be prepared... because the difficulty of that one will rip you a new hole.

While I understand that some people prefer the original Japanese voices (thus the undubbed runs I see on YouTube) I'm actually a big fan of the English cast more. That being said, I'm not totally dissing the Japanese actors at all. I mean, I did watch Persona 4 The Animation and Persona 3 The Movie #1 in Japanese and they're also good. It's just that once you're so used to a certain voice, it's hard to imagine the characters without them. That holds true for when characters are recast, but that's due to real-life issues beyond their control. More often than not, the recast actors do just as well, if not surpass their predecessors.

I actually find it awkward to hear English voices in a game that takes place in Japan. Especially when they decide to say "Name-san", it just sounds wrong to my ears. They should go with Mr, or Ms. I don't like it when they try to force Japanese lingo into a language that has something equivalent to it.
I think The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya handled the English dubbing exceptionally well, as an example.

I think The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya handled the English dubbing exceptionally well, as an example. Well, that's just the way it is. Plus in most English dubs, they do away with honorifics altogether, Besides, in regards to Persona, that only really applied to the games since Persona 3. In the English dub of Persona 4 the Animation, for instance, they don't talk that way. But yeah, sometimes it can be confusing. Thus why, in my own story set in the series timeline, the MC is actually an American who has to remember to NOT be on first name basis with everyone unless they allow it. Other than that, everyone does address each other as they should, with the surname followed by an honorific when it's appropriate. So thus, the only people who would be addressing each other on a first name basis would be the main character and his fellow party members, plus any close friends that they have.

Sure, it's gotten rather silly and light-hearted ever since the end of Persona 2, but even so, I still love the series.
Heck, in that story that I mentioned I was doing, it goes back to being a bit darker than what we have so far.

I also played Persona Q but I'm unsure if I should count that considering it plays more like an Etrian Odyssey title

Played a few. P3 was the first "social-sim" I'd ever played, and I loved how it actually worked with the game. Devil Survivor was also fun.
I still remember exploring Tartarus in P3 and getting the "OH CRAP, Death has appeared!" notification.
adamschwartze1986, if you want people to read the story ideas, post the story ideas. It's not something I'd normally find myself reading, but I'll take a look at it if you step up and put it out in public.

In any case, I'm still unsure as to whether or not I'm gonna buy Dancing All Night. The premise itself is a little too silly.

I love the Shin Megami Tensei series! I started falling in love with the games when I first laid eyes on the gameplay videos of SMT Nocturn, my first ever SMT game is Persona 3 though. The unique visual novel like character interaction and the unusual battle system, fast forward two years later, I finally got my hands on SMT Nocturn (it is an extremely rare game); and it topped Persona 3 in my favourites list with a fantastical story world, everything is bleak, yet it felt like there is still a glimmer of hope for humanity. And then I moved to playing Devil Summoner Raidou Kuzunoha VS King of Abbadon; it blew my mnd with an action based battle system and mixed it with Nocturn's negotiations! I couldn't be more in love with the series!! Right now, I really looking forward to Persona 5!!

SMT: Nocturne is a rare game? I got an unused copy from the nearest gamestop last year. Completely unexpected, I know. Best purchase ever.

I am big fan of SMT series (mostly the spin offs). I've played SMT devil survivor Overclocked first then played Persona 4 golden and kind of stopped playing SMT4 and P3P. Really enjoyed playing Devil survivor as I loved the focus was emphasized more on setting and ideals. I am now just waiting for P5, P4 Dancing all night and Devil Surivor 2 EU version
