So I just secured a pre-order of PSVR today and it got me thinking.. Could VR be used in a creative way for something like Bloodstained or a future potential sequel? People typically think that VR works best in first person but that is not always the case. For instance there's a game called Chronos which uses fixed camera angles and your headset acts as the camera views, and you can move your head left to right or up to down in each fixed position. As you can see here. I guess my point is... Would you be curious to see VR utilized in a game of this style or would you like one day VR to have some capabilities in an actual Igavania game?

I don't see the appeal to VR, as it is, to begin with. When I get home I don't look forward to moving around more. However, if vr advanced to a level similar to Sword Art Online then I'll be all for a virtual reality igavania.

You should really try it out at a Best Buy. Imagine being able to look directly INTO the castle with your own eyes

I'll look more into VR for the sake of discussion but after a long day on my feet I prefer to keep my motion to a minimum. Just a personal preference.

Don't have VR, but does VR have eye detection? Or is it just detecting your head movements? Because if it's just head movement, wouldn't that mess with you? I mean, look at something and turn your head a bit. You'll still focus on that one thing, and I feel that wouldn't translate well to VR. I could be wrong but that seems like an issue.
As for this idea of a corner cam with vr, it doesn't sound bad. And I didn't even hate on those 3d Castlevanias. *CoD and LoI not the N64 ones.

Actually they're developing tech where it tracks pupil movement that way it can optimize the quality of the graphics to what you are actually seeing at any given moment. In terms of head movement? Nah, it doesn't mess with you but it depends on the experience, they've developed solutions for games where you're moving a character with analog sticks and moving your head around which causes motion sickness. They've already found solutions to help that. However in this case where it's an igavania game and you're physically LOOKING into a 2.5d castle it wouldn't be a concern at all. You act as the camera. So you wanna zoom in to see your character more you physically can move your body and head closer. You can turn your head inward to see your character straight on or in other ways. I think it could be interesting. Kale, you should check online to see if a Best Buy or GameStop near you is demoing a PSVR unit. It's definitely worth trying, many people who are dismissive of the tech are people who haven't even given it a shot. It's a whole new way to experience gaming.

Wouldn't the headset be to heavy for long use. One of the things that's hard to check until you get one is how long you can use it without discomfort, and considering fixed camera angles in a Igavania in which you enter hundreds of rooms will all of them have different camera angles or would there be next to no difference from playing it on a screen. I am sure there would be cool camera angles and different camera tricks to keep you interested, but is it worth doing on a game that wasn't meant to be a VR game?

PSVR is known for its comfort, it's super light and feels completely comfortable. VR isn't really something that you can say "this experience doesn't really have a purpose with VR". There's insanely creative things I've seen done in VR. A 2.5d movie in a Pixar style, 3rd person platformers, puzzle games, first person games... Picture 3DS with an igavania. You know how it'd be like a diorama and how cool that'd be? Well imagine a diorama but with your head BEING in the diorama.

I think I'll wait til the pupil tracking to really give it a go. I've been turned off it more for the ToS stuff than anything though, with the Vive and the Oculus at least. But back on point, I was thinking that you were wanting a 3d vania when you posted this, since you used a 3d game to show off. For a 2d vania.... I don't know how much it would benefit. Well, I do... sort of. I mean, one of the limits of a 2d scroller game is the inability to see farther than the edge of the screen and this would probably help alleviate that. But I wonder if it would be a big improvement or not.

VR games like Castlevania, Bloodstained, Super Metroid, and Guacamelee sound like a cool idea. However, I'd probably have to pass them on in VR's current form. Those types of games are ones I enjoy binging for hours at a time. All the VR experiences I've had ended up being either tech demos I wouldn't enjoy for more than five minutes, or full games I've played for around 15 minutes and got motion sickness from. That would not be a good combination for me.

While this isn't a game it kinda shows you what I'm talking about in terms of what cool stuff would be possible with an igavania. ( at least as an option)
This is an animated movie made for VR
It's the capability of allowing you to dictate the camera within the world. It can still be sidescrolling but you'd have control based on what you choose to look at and HOW you look at it

I'm interested in VR but I can barely afford to live where I am now let alone a VR headset. I also don't really think it would do much for my enjoyment with Igavania games.

for me, VR is just a screen on your face :S so it's gonna be bad for your eyes.
but maybe it could be very fun too if the VR game is well designed.

VR are still considered as a development kit if you asked me since it's only officially out by this year, so I will count this as the first generation maybe give it another 5 to 6 years? wait until it at least that VR becomes the norm, not just for gaming Then it will be a good time to buy one since the VR are really expensive even for people who are gaming enthusiast

How many of you have actually tried modern VR? Vive, PSVR or Oculus?
It might be the first generation but it's already pretty transformative. I don't think any major company has attempted sidescrolling in it but all I'm saying is it could be pretty amazing if done right, just like 3D for a sidescrolling vania would have been very special if IGA had the chance on 3ds. It'd be the same feeling. Depth in the environments, the parallax backgrounds would look even more special because you have a true sense of depth but with the added feeling of actually being there and slight movement abilities with you being the camera

So far, the only game I plan on buying a VR headset for is Final Fantasy XV. It seems like the perfect game for such an experience. The incentive is playing as Prompto!

I haven't tried VR at all, but I really would like to try it someday. I'd have to wait for a friend to pick up a headset at some point and try it then but most of them don't really care for it.
